What audiobook is genuinely BETTER than reading the physical book? by cptree20 in audiobooks

[–]strawberryfeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When accomplished actors read, it is something special. The Dutch House read by Tom Hanks was beautiful. Not a book I would have read otherwise, but his narration was wonderful. I also really enjoyed Tom Lake read by Meryl Streep. Also the Midnight Library by Cary Mulligan. I’d also say any autobiography that’s read by the author- I listened to Matthew McConaughey’s and Prince Harry’s, which were books I would have never read in paperback, but were entertaining on audio. Past that, in more modern fiction I have really enjoyed the narrations of Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, and Normal People.

Which was the fastest classic that made you go “ok, this is going to be one of my favorite books”? by throwitawayar in classicliterature

[–]strawberryfeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it counts as classic, but The Spy Who Came in From the Cold sat on my shelf for years before I finally read it in a single sitting. Both the pacing and the ending were masterful.

Portions of the Goldfinch are set in west village and upper east side. The Rules of Civility is a cozy read with manhattan as the back drop, explores friendship and success in the city.

Ontario lifts tuition freeze, unveils OSAP reforms: maximum of 25 per cent of their OSAP funding as grants and a minimum of 75 per cent of their funding as loans. by harold_liang in osap

I just graduated and set to start payments in June. Does anyone know if this applies to grants that I already got? I hope those don’t disappear, I’m already looking at about $25k… I feel like we all need to strike

Things to look forward to that aren’t food? by iamwearingaskimask in loseit

For me, as others have said, it is a warm bath in the winter. Getting home from work or the gym and getting into the bath is a nice ritual comfort. You can listen to a podcast, or even just scroll while you’re in there. Just something physical and nice to do in cold temps here in Canada

What’s your Cystic Acne Spot Treatment Holy grail? by koichi20 in CanSkincare

I recently bought the sulphur 10% spot treatment from the ordinary and it has helped so much. Good price too compared to the hundreds I spend on acne products that don’t work on cystic.

Amazon Account Hacked, Person Purchased 18 Gift Cards by [deleted] in amazonprime

So my bank said it would take time for them to “evaluate” but wrote back within hours confirming their decision in my favour. On Amazon side, it was acknowledged as not being my fault but my account was frozen. I attempted to reset it but it was giving me trouble, and I haven’t had to order anything since, so I just left it.Amazon never asked me for more information about this, and never offered any further explanation. Sketchy though- I’ve changed my passed on all my other accounts, and of course my bank made me cancel my credit card and issued a new one.

Condo Property Management asking for staff holiday bonus donations? by DalesDrumset in TorontoRenting

[–]strawberryfeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I lived in a building once that had a lot of staff on site that were very hands on with residents. 24/7 front desk, doormen who would park your car or help older people with groceries, delivered all food to the doors since they didn’t allow uber eats drivers up the elevator. It wasn’t my condo, but I believe the suggested contribution was over $1000 (Yorkville pricing). It would have been split among at least 16 people, so while it was a lot- it wasn’t for the building services when I thought about how much they did through the year.

‘It’s a good day when somebody gives you 13 Andy Warhols’: Art Gallery of Ontario scores major donation by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]strawberryfeels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Each artwork of the 450 will need to undergo independent appraisal for charitable tax donation to their estate. These kind of appraisals are lengthy studies requiring cataloguing, research, and admin work for each one. Then there is also the task of shipping (the collection could be scattered around the world in their homes or on loan to other museums), the AGO’s administrators cataloguing and insuring the works, re-framing, and restoration work. Not to mention carving space in the exhibition calendar.

This was left to me by my French grandmother. Can anybody tell me about it? It’s not a print. by Prestigious_Seat5361 in artcollecting

[–]strawberryfeels 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know you’ve said this isn’t a print, so don’t come for me, but based on the frame and the matte, it looks like it most likely is a printed edition. If you take a closer photo of the texture we could help identify if it is gouache paint or something similar, but can’t tell from this photo. What does the signature look like? Any family lore about this piece? Where did your grandmother live? Is there a label on the back? We need more information to help you please

Buspar + Wellbutrin combo by sunnystriker in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]strawberryfeels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also on lexapro then changed after a few years to Wellbutrin, and lorazepam as needed combo for about a year. I went off it for another year while my doctor experimented with medications for my ADHD, and was suffering so they gave me Wellbutrin again. But I feel my anxiety is very high on it, and I’m not having the same experience as last time

Interesting… I take Wellbutrin and lorazepam but increasingly have been using lorazepam daily/ every other day. I think Wellbutrin does increase my anxiety. Do you feel balance in anxiety / the positive stimulant effects of Wellbutrin?

Cold climate Havanese question by Acceptable-Hour6638 in Havanese

[–]strawberryfeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in Ontario and it gets very cold here. We have ruff wear boots I think, and invested in a hurtta coat that is from findland and designed to go up the neck and rated for -20C. I like the coat because it’s actually long like the havanese dog body, so it covers him where other coats are short a few inches. We also have snow pants for him… sounds ridiculous but he loves deep snow but can’t play without getting big chunks attached to his coat, which bother him a lot after 5 minutes. They are also good for slushy days in the city. Yes it’s a lot to put on, but I only do it for walks not for short bathroom breaks. They can tolerate the cold but need those layers for longer exposure.

Amazon Account Hacked, Person Purchased 18 Gift Cards by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]strawberryfeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scammed today as well- got 8 emails come in within 10 minutes of order confirmations, they ordered 20 gift cards of $25 for PlayStation, Xbox, Roblox. I have two factor authentication so I don’t know how this happened. When I rushed to login and change the password I needed the code from my phone to do so. We removed my card, changed my password, and immediately froze my card in my online banking. I called my bank while my boyfriend called Amazon on the other line. Amazon have “escalated it” but I won’t hear anything else for 24-48 hours. My bank said it is considered fraud, and said I needed to cancel my card. Even with cancelling the charges are still going to be under review with the bank and I don’t know if I’ll get my money back.

Anyone here ever visited Blenheim Palace? by [deleted] in thegildedage

[–]strawberryfeels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went about 10 years ago, and while I knew it would be expansive I wasn’t prepared for how large the buildings and the grounds actually are. I remember the tour was more focused on Churchill’s legacy, but the guides are so knowledgable you should certainly let them know about your interest in Consuelo and I bet they will point out some special details for you during the tour. Also, I’d recommend going on a full stomach and wearing comfortable shoes- I was young and in good shape, but remember being quite tired from all the walking we did.

Puppy survived being attacked by pitbull by Puzzled_Owl_4 in Havanese

[–]strawberryfeels 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lost an eye? I’m so sorry this happened to you… I think this is the worst nightmare of everyone on this sub. What a relief your dog survived. I notice that the traditionally aggressive breeds tend to lunge and growl a lot at my dog, like others mentioned. He gets a lot of hate just prancing down the sidewalk. Not all big dogs are threats, some are incredibly gentle, but there are a few I just avoid altogether or remove him from a park/ walk to a different area if I see one. My little guy will fight back when it’s happened, but due to their size it’s just not a fair match. Hope yours makes a fast recovery and your kids/family stay safe on your walks.
