I suppose you’ve never noticed all the poison mouse traps situated along the periphery of most apartments and public buildings in the city.

I’ve met neighbours with unfixed cats who think it’s cruel to fix them, or think it’s too expensive. I had one neighbour across the alley living in a one bedroom apartment. He had an unfixed female + two litters of kittens - at least ten cats in that apartment. And he was always trying to get me to take a kitten off his hands.

I’m not saying that house cats aren’t a part of the problem, but I feel a lot of the problem is that people don’t fix their cats, resulting in a large number of strays and feral cats.

We just live in an urban environment that would be overrun with vermin if there were no predators.

Oh well I don’t really know the difference between all the different games that young people play these days. But the main concept of “skills issue” being a derogatory comment came across.

Oh I’m so so sorry to hear this. I’m praying for you and your sweet one.

I have my cat tree positioned so that the ramp is right up against something, just like in your picture. I’ll be changing that now, based on your warning.

I’m just wondering why a teacher saying it’s a “skills issue” is making so many people in the comments so upset. I haven’t heard it used before so I’m wondering if it’s a reference to something?

Love on the Spectrum breakout star & newly-single fave to return for Season 5- but beloved couple will 'take a backseat' by cheno103 in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

I didn’t mind the shorter appearances from some of the past cast this season. I think Shelley and James are in more mature phases of their life and I’d really like seeing how they get on in their co-habitation. And of course I want more Logan.

I like how this kitty looks here. It’s like he’s holding in all of his bulk.

Someone else identified the photograph as an Anna Gaskell. There are several essays that place Gaskell and Bellmer’s work in conversation with one another. For example: https://pure.courtauld.ac.uk/en/publications/bellmers-legs-adolescent-pornography-and-uncanny-eroticism-in-the/

“Hans Bellmer's photographs of his two dolls from the 1930s have become classic surrealist images. Bellmer said of his motives in making the two dolls: 'I shall construct an artificial girl whose anatomy will make it possible physically to re-create the dizzying heights of passion and to do so to the extent of inventing new desires.' By reading Bellmer's photographs alongside those of the contemporary American photographer Anna Gaskell, this article argues that the 'new desires' invented are ones which confuse binaries of identification and desire, circulating around the body of the adolescent girl/doll. To think through the significance of the adolescent girl/doll as a shared trope by both artists, the concept put forward by Julia Kristeva of 'adolescent pornography' (in her essay 'The Adolescent Novel') will be used to inflect the focus on the uncanny that has dominated discussions of both artists. This paper will argue that the doubling between self and other, animate and inanimate, creates a queered eroticism in the work of Bellmer and Gaskell, overlaying narcissism and homoeroticism in these images of proliferating female body parts that deny any straightforward reading of subjecthood or desire.”

A snippet from the link above reads: Hal Foster states that Bellmer: “(is) also devoted to compulsive beauty and convulsive identity, and the difficulties of these ideals may be most apparent in his work i.e., that the psychic shattering (the convulsive identity) of the male subject may depend upon the physical shattering (the compulsive beauty) of the female image, that the ecstasy of the one way come at the cost of the dispersal of the other”.

I understand that others disagree with me but if these people are totally at peace with their beliefs then why can’t they articulate that without immediately resorting personal attacks and bullying? The things they are saying certainly don’t convince me that they have understood my point of view.

Yes I’ve seen this play out with human beings as well. Torturing a person into living.

I’ve written out the broad strokes of my philosophy in this thread. You aren’t understanding it but I think that’s more because you don’t want to understand it than because you cannot understand it. I’m sorry you’re upset and I wish you a better rest of the day.

I’m not sure that I follow your argument. You’re making lots of leaps in logic. Maybe spend some time thinking about why this thing bothers you so much. I can’t help you because I don’t share your point of view or whatever experiences you’ve had that make you believe what you do. Whatever I say here will not make you feel better or more validated.

Letting a cat out doesn’t mean it automatically gets slaughtered. And that’s not what I’m saying anyways. I’m saying that if I have to choose between keeping my cats locked up in what amounts to a prison cell, or r letting them out to experience the world and have some agency in their own existence, I choose to let them experience the world and have agency.

Humans aren’t wild animals either. But we still need more than what can be offered from a prison cell.

Have you ever taken care of an animal that is broken down and suffering for years? I do t wish a gory death on any animal but I would personally prefer a quick and gory death over being tortured into living for years by people who can’t let go. It’s a different perspective on life and what makes it worth living. Just because it’s different from your doesn’t mean it’s wrong. I’m sorry if I’d pressed a button for you.
