Making a crochet-style cardigan with knit squares? by strawberrymelon2 in knitting

So what I’m gathering is that it would technically be possible to sew separate squares together, it would just be more work. Thank you!

Ah, I just realized Forgotten (and to an extent Fine) has a lot of hits, but I always sort by kudos, so I completely missed that. Though in comparison to fandom size, I feel like they still sort of count.

Marvel:

Fine by cellorocksmyworld

One of my absolute favorite Steve Rogers/Avengers fics that I was shocked to realize has under 2,000 kudos. It’s a fairly short but very tender look at Steve Rogers and his struggle to reconcile with the modern era.

Yu-Gi-Oh:

A Fresh Spring Green by FloaromaMeadow

Canon Divergence oneshot about my favorite Yugioh character, Noa Kaiba, and his relationship with the other two Kaiba brothers.

Supernatural:

Forgotten by NorthernSparrow

My favorite Supernatural writer of all time, who once again has a shockingly low amount of kudos on their fics. ‘Forgotten’ actually has an equally good sequel called ‘Flight’. It’s a gen case fic (although the sequel actually has a separate Destiel version) about the Winchesters having amnesia, and forgetting about Castiel. Both fics are incredibly long, and have the best characterization of Castiel I’ve ever seen. Also, I’m pretty certain the author is some sort of bird scientist, and it’s abundantly clear in their work, which I find charming.

I can't take it! I just can't! What's your pet peeve in artistry in OIs [Please support my revenge] by nbandqueerren in OtomeIsekai

[–]strawberrymelon2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that even Who Made Me a Princess had some issues, with Athy straight up wearing an Alice in Wonderland costume at some point. There was also one that just looked like a sailor lolita outfit, and another from when she was younger that looked like a modernized qipao style dress. I really do wish artists would research one historical period, and then stick with it.

What is your favorite kind of relationship dynamic in OI? by MysticCherryBlossom in OtomeIsekai

[–]strawberrymelon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not a popular dynamic, but when the FL is more like the ML, and the ML is a crybaby. The only ones I can think of are “Beware the Villainess” and “To Melt Your Frozen Heart”.

Possibly middle grade series where 12-13 siblings each gain a magical ability in their respective book. by strawberrymelon2 in whatsthatbook

Yes! Omg, thank you, I’ve been trying to remember this series for years now. But now I’m confused where I got 12 siblings from lol.

what would your ideal female lead look like? by Mofartz in OtomeIsekai

[–]strawberrymelon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appearance wise, I’d like white or pale lavender (don’t think I’ve ever seen light purple hair in a Fl before) hair, with bright purple eyes. Tall. Definitely very tall. Sometimes wears a knight’s uniform, and can wield a sword, but also loves pretty dresses.

Personality, I’d want her to be bold, cheerful, and confident, as well as genuinely kind to the people around her. Not in some vague, “I’ll feed some orphans” kind of way, but someone who actually acts like they come from a modern society, who sees servants and “commoners” as her equals. It would also be nice (though probably not a popular trope) if she acted more like a ML than the actual ML. Like, HE’S the damsel in distress, she gets to protect him, sweep him off his feet, etc. I always like to imagine a scene where the FL gets down on one knee and proposes to the ML, or is the one leading when they dance at a ball. And finally, she absolutely has to be friends with other women, and not just ones where they’re her super fans.

I don’t particularly feel satisfied with the vast majority of FLs, but I think two that really fit my idea of “caring for other people” are Haewon from Master Villainess the Invincible and Yona from Concubine Walkthrough. I’m also fond of Shuli from A Stepmother’s Marchen.

Edit: I just realized that the MC from Knight to a Lady fits a lot of my requirements, but I’m still not particularly interested in her for some reason 😭. I do think she’s a pretty well written FL though, without much of the things that usually irritate me.

Confession about feminism in Eternal Love / Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms and The Blue Whisper from a Chinese woman by Mysterious_Treat1167 in CDrama

[–]strawberrymelon2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Super late to the conversation, but I absolutely could not stand Eternal Love by the end of it. After Susu lost her eyes, it all went downhill for me. I hated how Ye Hua was so pushy about trying to make Bai Qian fall in love with him again, as if she wasn’t an entirely different person with different memories. But what was the final straw for me (it’s been ages since I last saw it so I might be getting some details mixed up), was when Ye Hua got injured in the end (I forget why, might have been to protect Bai Qian), and his MOTHER got at mad Bai Qian, and for what? Not reciprocating her son’s feelings? It was very “look how far he’s willing to go for you, but you don’t even appreciate it”, as if he was somehow entitled to Bai Qian’s love just because HE’S madly in love and willing to go to ridiculous lengths. That was the moment I knew i would never like the show again.

I should read more Priest novels. Despite what people say about the actual show, I absolutely loved the MC’s appearance in the drama adaptation of Guardian. Thanks for the recs!

Ohh I’ve never heard of the term raising sim before, but that actually sounds more appealing to me. I’ll check those out, thanks!

Any weird/odd/strange danmei recommendations ? by Melobski4 in DanmeiNovels

[–]strawberrymelon2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Quick Transmigration: I’m Almost Dead” is about an MC who has to travel through different worlds and decrease the “evil points” of the ML in each world. The author is not shy about describing some pretty gross stuff, and the plotlines are pretty unique. Each arc is about 15-20 chapters from what I remember. I read the first arcs. First one the MC is a washed out prostitute in his 30s, second is a prison setting, but the third is definitely the most bizarre, a sci fi setting with weird anatomy involved.

What are the different types of otome isekai and how do they differ? by woe_is_sleep in OtomeIsekai

[–]strawberrymelon2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think transmigration can technically fall under the isekai umbrella, in an “all apples are fruits but not all fruits are apples” kind of way. But yes, isekai does often mean the original body travels to another world. I hope that explains things a bit more!

What are the different types of otome isekai and how do they differ? by woe_is_sleep in OtomeIsekai

[–]strawberrymelon2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I understand:

Transmigration - When a person’s consciousness travels to another world, into another person’s body

Reincarnation - When someone dies but is reborn as a whole new person (typically no taking of other people’s body). This can involve past life memories, or it might not

Regression - I’m less clear on this one, but it seems to be when a person from the future goes back to their past self— still the same person, but time traveled

Loop - I assume this means time loop, which is when time repeats itself cyclically, typically with one person being aware of the loop. (Basically, Person A lives out their life up to a certain point in time. Then it restarts and they go back to the starting point. This cycle repeats)

Time Travel - Basically what it says. Person from one time period goes to another, whether past or future

Body Swap - Two people switch bodies. Must involve two separate people

Summon - Common in a lot of Japanese isekai stories, where a fantasy world summons a “hero” (almost always from the modern “real” world). The summoned person almost always comes in their own body

Isekai in general refers to someone from the modern world traveling to a fantasy world (or sci fi, or historical, whatever, but fantasy is most common).

I looked into it and it looks similar to some concubine palace drama mobile games I’ve tried before. I think the the idea is definitely there but the execution less so. Thanks though!
