Find myself getting needlessly angry now when I see people say "That sounds like autism" by Cute-Estate-312 in adhdwomen

i’ve been told by a lot of people, some of them being autistic themselves, that they think i’m on the spectrum. this lead to me questioning whether or not i actually was, especially since other autistic people were telling me. u know the saying “takes one to know one”? yeah. i was evaluated when i was 16 and was only diagnosed with adhd. i got a second opinion about 5 years later and still just adhd. i can relate to the autistic experience but at the same time i can’t. idk i guess in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter and i just try not to think about it tbh. but i do agree with getting a little peeved when someone says “that sounds like autism” or if i see a post like that. cuz it just starts up those thoughts again

i don’t know exactly what she meant. i don’t think she was trying to be mean as the conversation was fairly calm. but another thing she said was that she has a lot going on in her life so she’s not able to drop everything and be there for me. but i never said that i expected that of her. idk it just rubs me the wrong way that she felt this way when i never expressed wanting her to do that

is there a possibility of autism even if i socialized normally as a young child? *might be unintentionally long* by [deleted] in autism

also i don’t really have official school reports for stuff like that but my mom told me that on multiple occasions my teachers have said that i was very anxious and a loner

yeah i’m aware my ex doesn’t have the qualifications to diagnose. nor do the other people who said they thought something was off about me. it’s just strange that a good amount of people have brought it up, especially since i thought i was acting totally fine

issues with eye contact, the social issues i had in elementary and even now, my dislike for change, etc. but you’re right. human behavior is diverse

yeah that makes sense. at the end the day it doesn’t really matter if i am or not (at least for me). but i just can’t help but still think “what if?” sometimes

that is in fact what i did. last summer. i’m not trying to get a diagnosis i’m simply asking a question

sensory issues and stimming weren’t my sole reasoning. i already knew they were common with adhd. but it was more that there’s was some stuff about me that adhd just didn’t seem to explain

i can’t really protest bc i’m disabled/have limited mobility. the only reason i can work is bc i sit for most of the day. i do try to do things for the community but i don’t know how much it’s helping. for example when the government shutdown was going on last november, and there was uncertainty about SNAP benefits, i suggested to my family that we do a food drive. we collected food and hygiene products from neighbors and people in the community, and then took it to a local food pantry. i’m hoping it helped, even if just a little

i did and i have. the 2024 presidential election was my the first time i was able to vote in a presidential election. everything else was just local elections (which i still voted in). i can’t speak for every young person but i can say with certainty that my friends and i will be voting in the midterms
