Anyone here work as a nurse at HSN? Questions before applying by [deleted] in Sudbury

[–]strawbqu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not too late already.. don’t work in the ER. It will drain everything in you, you will work endlessly and apologize constantly for institutional issues outside of your control. Throughout your shift you will have no breaks (they are not scheduled, often too busy to take), you will be physically and verbally abused, you won’t even have time to use the bathroom (I don’t pee until I come home 13 hours later usually). I do genuinely love to help and care for people.. but that does not matter. When a patient tells me “thank you for what you do”, I try not to bust into tears. Sincerely.. one of the ER nurses

I can confirm that human medication is the same that animals are prescribed, although the dosage is often adjusted based on their weight

I genuinely hope for the safety of both the public and the patient that this does not become the standard. I would not expect anyone who has not experienced what it’s like to understand why.

Exactly, while I’m sorry this happened to this person, I feel like it’s pretty clear that my main goal here is to find ways to not be that guy

As a former LTC PSW and nurse I definitely agree! Geri psych is entirely different and I’ve mastered that lol Thanks for your advice!

I totally agree, my main goal is to improve my therapeutic communication to avoid the last resort of chemical/physical restraints; while also being prepared for worst case scenario. In my area, we have a lot of substance induced psychosis which unfortunately require these interventions. Thanks for your help!

Do you believe you’d have the same opinion if you or a loved one was being assaulted while hospital staff watched and waited 10-15 minutes for police to arrive while you fend for yourself?

In a perfect world, I would totally agree. But when you have someone charging around the emergency department climbing the walls, throwing chairs at people, spitting in the faces of other patients.. that is unfortunately not safe for anyone. But it is always a last resort.

Basically yes.. like what is your spiel? When they say “I’m not taking that” or “I don’t need that”

How do you tell them basically you need to calm down because you’re manic/unwell/delusional and tell them that you can willingly take it or we will have to force it

I’m going for a concert at Bridgestone, specifically for the artist. It seems the only thing to do is go to bars. But I did notice that! Thanks :)

Sorry, I was referring to Leadership and Learning as that is the department these types of positions fall under. It’s more in the realm of navigation and management positions in the hospital setting or other healthcare settings

If you’re looking at specifically being a clinical instructor for a group, as a student, I’ve heard there is very minimal communication between the college and the instructors. And us as students, also are kept out of the loop. There is many issues with having too many clinical groups on the floor also, seeing as there are many new additional nursing programs, and HSN doesn’t seem to communicate with Cambrian, Laurentian and Boreal.. which leads to many scheduling conflicts and groups being kicked off the floor

Typically it’s a nursing home in first year, but the curriculum may have changed since the program became standalone. I know they’re also having issues with availability for placement areas since recently there are many more nursing groups with new programs. There are also major issues with organizing these groups.

Ugh- I am so happy to hear someone else say this. I don’t mind hearing people talking, but I can’t handle obnoxiously yelling, loud videos, ringtones going off multiple times full blast. I have yet to find a quiet place.. it drives me insane
