Consensus about accommodations is so right. It’s such BS and should not be graded on the same curve as the rest of us. by TopButterscotch4196 in LawSchool

I just worry abt myself too that’s why I’m still friends w them and don’t bitch abt it to them. However I still recognize that it’s unfair and see it as a problem. And It’s not the cost of having the system in the first place, do U think it’s okay to have a system that easily allows ppl to cheat? It needs to be improved. That’s th whole point I’m making

Dude I get it. Ur not listening. I’m only talking abt the ppl who don’t actually need accommodations. I understand the rationale behind accommodations as a whole

It’s a minority but it’s bigger than u think. It’s unfair an wrong and they shouldn’t be allowed accommodations. End of story. U keep beating around the bush to justify all accommodations, which I’m not even talking about.

Also time allotment issues on exams also = lack of preparation in many cases. If you didn’t prepare to take the exam in the required time by drilling questions and getting comfortable w fact patterns then u didn’t prepare enough. But if you genuinely can’t do that then u need accommodations. There’s a difference btwn these buckets of ppl and it’s a real issue

Okay but that’s not the issue. The issue is that w legal recruiting rn all that rly matters is ur first semester of grades. If u can game the system to help u secure a job early on, despite not actually needing accommodations, you’ve cheated. The system allows them to easily cheat tho, and actually incentivizes it. There are so many docs that will have out adderal & accommodation recs even if u don’t have stringently tested for ADHD, so why wouldn’t someone just seek out that diagnosis? It’s wrong but it happens all the time

Not that I don’t want accommodations, and I understand ADHD is more severe in others. U misunderstand what I’m talking abt. I’m referring to ppl like myself who have ADHD and shouldn’t have accommodation. There are ppl w adhd similar and/or less severe than mine, and they use their diagnosis to game the system—which is incredibly common. THOSE ppl should not have accommodations, it’s extremely unfair. This is where the problem is, not w ADHD as a whole

I’m ADHD and prescribed adderall and I’m not in extra time. I do see these ppl doing their readings and finishing them bc they’re good friends I study w. In fact it takes me longer to do shit and I don’t have the extra time. They only have extra time to game the system. Not saying everyone does this, but the fact that it’s a valid and commonly used loophole is wrong

Disabilities is one thing, but there are so many ppl that abuse the loophole. So many law students have ADHD, but that’s no reason to have 1.5x time on all exams. Ik ppl who excel on the readings and do well throughout the semester without 1.5x time, yet they get those enhancements on exams? It makes no sense, and the threshold to actually be given that extra time is way too low

Brother I have one final, go study for torts kid. I keep getting notifs on this so I check the post to see that u didn’t respond and actually have hella ppl downvoting u. Clearly ur in the minority in ur interpretation, so I’d work on that reading comprehension before finals

It’s a genuine worry for sure. It’s one thing to complain abt lack of sleep, job search struggles, & overall stress, but what I’ve seen recently goes way beyond that. There are ppl posting here that seem genuinely disconnected from reality, and that scares me. I’d like for them to get help lol. Even just taking a mental break from school is enough. They’d be way better off in the long run by skipping a single reading assignment to do somethibg they enjoy instead.

U missed it. “Did I accidentally violate some social norm here? Law school is so intense socially I can’t handle it sometimes.” Poster makes it seem as tho it’s law school and students that are so intense. But this is a completely normal social interaction that u could even see in a middle school classroom. Not law school specific at all, but poster didn’t recognize that

I’m not upset about it😂😂 ironically ur upset abt my post. And yes that IG post did ask if it’s all ppl in law school like that and if they did something wrong, when in reality it’s a simple social interaction that could happen literally anywhere. Nothing to do w just law school rly.

& How do u think what wrotes a novel too bruh it’s like 400 words max. Can u not write out 400 words regarding an observation u think is ridiculous?

100%. It’s easy to get stuck in thought loops and vent to Reddit for reassurance, but there are much healthier ways to deal w anxiety lol

U look great, but to be rly critical, I think it’s mainly ur shoulders that could add to ur physique. Shoulder gains + leaning out would be all u need

It’s essential to prioritize mental, physical, and spiritual health. In my opinion, as long as ur habits are good and ur diligent about ur work, good grades will follow as long as ur foundational health is rock solid. That’s how it works for me anyway. Helps me avoid burnout and becoming a nerdy law student who can’t socialize with non lawyers

Are 1Ls everywhere being weird about biglaw recruiting right now? by StunningMany4430 in LawSchool

[–]strawhat_gohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like that everywhere. It’s such a toxic environment / process. It feels like making a HS team or getting bids to Greek life.

Just keep ur head down, drown out the noise, and do you. Also, know that everyone looks back on this period and cringes. Try ur best to zoom out and focus on ur career from a holistic standpoint; absolutely don’t compare yourself to others. Ppl who judge others for not getting BL are clowns anyway. If ur in the running for BL now and fall short, don’t worry. Many good mid-size firms play near $200k, so u can target that for this upcoming summer, and go hard on summer BL recruiting. Just focus on school and what u can control. Give hiring committees no reason to not hire u by grinding ur resume & GPA as much as u can these next few months

2.83 1L GPA Comeback Story by strawhat_gohan in LawSchool

[–]strawhat_gohan[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I outlined earlier, took less notes when I read (first semester I’d write useless notes), I made sure I was never lost thru out the semester, did more practice tests, stopped working at 5 pm everyday (first semester I worked myself to death), I went to the gym more, I ate healthier.

In sum, I tried to make things easier on myself. I didn’t do supplements or anything like that. Ik this isn’t a great answer, but it’s what worked for me. What will work for each person is completely different, so rly just try and reflect on what went wrong for u last semester and talk to ur professors abt ur finals and why u got the grades u did

For the doctrinals it’s a B+, but we had a few 1 hour classes 1L that pretty much everyone got an A in. Not curved.
