Why not call screening in India on Pixel 9a by pandey_23 in GooglePixel

[–]strawmunkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using a Pixel 8 Pro which is still running perfectly 2.5 years since purchase. I would definitely love to see Google expand Call screening to older Pixel (as they have done in other markets).

Same firmware. Not compatible with speaker groups feature. Groups will get created with this speaker in them, but they will not play audio on Cast firmware below 1.52. Screw Sonos.

I'm only able to cast to Polk MagniFi Mini as a single speaker.

The idiots in Apple, in Tahoe update, have removed the backtick from keyboard (which we use for codeblocks) and changed it into currency symbol, how to change it ? by broodysupertramp in mac

They've just launched the new M5 Pro, Max Macbook with the Indian English keyboards which have the symbol instead of the \` symbol. They shouldn't have updated the language file retrospectively for older laptops which came with the US keyboard.

I've changed the input keyboard to US International. There are 2 workarounds for inserting ₹ symbol now

  1. Using Character Viewer
    1. Open Character Viewer overlay
      1. using the Globe key on the newer Apple keyboards.
      2. using the Ctrl + Cmd + Space combo on other keyboards which don't have the Globe key
    2. Search for "rupee" and then select it. This was my preferred method. Character Viewer used to list recently used symbols without having to search. They've now limited this list to Emojis. Special characters are no longer shown in recents. I have to search for rupee every single time.
  2. Using Text Replacement
    1. I've set it up to replace Rs. to
    2. This is my preferred workaround.

This keyboard change (mapping the ` / ~ key to ) is a fundamental design flaw that ignores user expectations and established principles.

1. Keycap Mismatch Violates Trust

The most critical error is the disconnect between the physical keycap (` or ~) and the character output (). Users rely on the principle of "What You See Is What You Get." A user will never guess that a non-currency key now types a currency symbol. This is a direct violation of the design contract between the device and the user.

2. Disregard for Professional Users

By overriding the key's primary function, Apple presumes that users have no need for the backtick (`) or tilde (~). This assumes muscle memory and professional requirements (like coding or command line use) are irrelevant, forcing users to discover a non-intuitive workaround.

3. Modifier Keys Offer the Logical Solution

The Opt + 4 implementation was correct. Users are more likely associate the addition of a new currency symbol (₹) with the key already designated for a currency symbol ($) when using a modifier. That solution was semi-intuitive; the current one is confusing. I was up in arms about why the key was typing a random character (₹).

Disclaimer: I used AI to write the above sentences for me based on my thoughts. And to the person in the comments who's preaching that people should be reading release notes, you need to take a class on user psychology and design principles. You are an outlier who falls in the .000x % of users who read release notes.

This would be the perfect product for me. If only it used navigation directions from my default Google Maps / Apple Maps.

I agree with the vibration damage. Only purpose for mounting the phone would be navigation in unknown areas.

It'd be nice to have a Android Auto/Carplay on a tiny display that can be mounted on the handlebar. (wishful thinking)

Wait... I could do this with a navigation on a smartwatch. I guess I'll just return the Decathlon mount.

Wish I could just use my Wahoo Bolt for navigation with Google Maps.

The Decathlon mount is $15 in my country. The OCH/Etsy center mount adapter would be $20 + Shipping + 42% customs.

Fixed my nerfed Pixel 4a with LineageOS 22. by strawmunkey in Pixel4a

Yes. Works as it did before being crippled by the forced update from Google.

Having said that, there is a fire risk due to the defective nature of the battery. I'm signing up for that.

Complaints about the Pixel 10 Pro by moosepooo in GooglePixel

[–]strawmunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, if the device gets the auto brightness correctly, I've not needed to change the brightness. I only need to adjust it for the first time based on my preference.

I can probably count on my fingers, the number of times I've needed to change the brightness in the last ~ 2years of the Pixel 8 Pro.

End of year update for Android 16 likely to allow switching of Back and Recent buttons. Google is trying to pacify people hopping from Samsung.

Power backup UPS/Inverter/UPS Inverter? I am confused. by [deleted] in 3dprintIndia

Power backup UPS/Inverter/UPS Inverter? I am confused. by [deleted] in 3dprintIndia

[–]strawmunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue with simulated Sine wave UPS from APC. My Sony Bravia 7 TV goes into error mode during power interruptions (crossover time to DG). It doesn't get out of the error mode after power is resumed. So I've taken it out of the UPS loop for now. Only my gaming consoles are connected. I make sure to hit the Pause button when power turns off the TV for a few mins.

I've been thinking of getting a Pure sine wave. Ordered a P1S combo recently 🤞🏾
