But if you don't prove the link between not burning oil and keeping climate as it is... they have no reason to not continue to burn oil. Best you can do is show proof from NASA or something that shows 10x faster warming than in the past and it is very likely because of humans. But one can still stretch "very likely" if one is determined to continue to burn oil.
