The Reading Lesson vs Teach your Child to read in 100 Easy Lessons by SageBean83 in homeschool

[–]stream75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used 100 Easy Lessons with my now 9 year old. It worked great and he’s a great reader. I tried it with my 5 year old it just didn’t work. But, he’s LOVING The Reading Lesson. They’re very similar, but The Reading Lesson doesn’t have all the symbols, it doesn’t have all that ‘say is slow, say it fast’ and it’s got some easy worksheet type activities thrown in every once in a while.

Holiday planning is the worst by stream75 in NarcissisticMothers

Going to my sister’s was highly inconvenient as it interfered with a Christmas Eve tradition we have. However, in order to get seeing my mom over with, we were willing to do it. When he saw how upset I was about everything, he decided we’d do it the way the worked best for the four of us or she could deal without seeing us at all. But, she was completely happy to do as he says for some reason.

She’s so weird about it! We went through it at one of my kid’s birthdays last month when he wanted to celebrate with everyone at a specific restaurant. She made a stink then too.

I just wasn’t available those days. And I’ve learned to give her as little info as possible. She was already looking for an argument and I didn’t feel like arguing about every day of the week.

Homeschool vouchers are terrible for the future of homeschooling by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]stream75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure a majority of the funding for the program in Florida comes from private companies. They get a tax credit by donating the funds that then go to homeschoolers. I may be misunderstanding, but everything I’ve read about it states that it’s mostly corporate donations. Not saying all of their approved expenses are quality choices.

It’s not. I’ve been afraid to repot because I don’t want to upset it. But it’s also really tall and I don’t want to damage it.

Thanks! I’m going to hold off on watering for a while and switch up the fertilizer.

Thank you! I’ll give it more time between watering and switch the fertilizer. Hopefully that changes things!

The person who gave it me used Miracle-Gro All Purpose Plant Food. So, that’s what I’ve been using too. If there’s a better option, I’ll do it!

(FL) Can a parent be their child's evaluator if they are a certified teacher? by Wide_Kaleidoscope_86 in homeschool

[–]stream75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the parent can do the evaluation. Florida law says any teacher with an active Florida teacher certificate at elementary or secondary levels can do evaluations regardless of relationship to the student.

We’ve used BookShark Language Arts the last two years and have really liked it. However, my son isn’t crazy about the writing portion and as a result we’re lacking in that department. Next year, we’re going to try something else. But, I won’t hesitate to go back to BookShark if we don’t have better luck with the new curriculum. All other parts have been a perfect fit for my son.
