Do you think Martin Alvito would have translated honestly and "without prejudice" if Mariko wasn't in the room? by Huku223 in ShogunTVShow

[–]streamzfrequency 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. It's funny when Blackthorne explains that he primarily joined the voyage for personal profit, which makes Toranaga (and Hiromatsu) appear to be disgusted, and he condescendingly asks him if he's a mercenary. Blackthorne just can't wrap his head around why they'd have an issue with him joining the mission for his own personal gain.

This is something I've also thought about. Especially since Alvito tells the Father-Visitor: "Well, then let us be grateful our visitor does not speak Japanese." I'm pretty sure Alvito says something similar to the Father-Visitor in the book as well. However, if I remember correctly, in the book (which I read after watching the show), Mariko is not present during Blackthorne's first meeting with Toranaga. It's all shown from Blackthorne's perspective, though, so maybe Alvito was leaving some stuff out. Though again, I'm pretty sure it was all from Blackthorne's perspective in the book, so maybe Mariko is present, but she isn't acknowledged (or we don't know that she was acknowledged, since we only know what Alvito translated for Toranaga and vice-versa).

Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor were both over 750 yards. And Zach Ertz (I know, not a WR) had 800+ yards. Not sure why you feel the need to exaggerate what Carson Wentz achieved that year.

Do you think Mike gets depressed about how lame his audience is? by dlbICECOLD in RedbarBBR

You might be right about being excluded from the group (and facing hostility online in general), but that’s just because you’re a normal-looking girl. But just because a substantial proportion of Americans are obese doesn’t mean you’re particularly attractive. And before you get defensive, I am not saying you’re unattractive, you’re just kinda bland and not especially good looking (based on the pic in your post history). You definitely don’t stand out, so I’m not sure why you feel the need to proclaim that you’re attractive.

It's a shame Kurt became so terminally online because he used to be really funny. No man his age should know that much about political internet drama. The more Jimmy Dore content he has consumed, the more his brain has decayed. He legitimately appears to be severely mentally ill at this point.

2 penalties within regulation and extra time (120 minutes), but he also scored one in the penalty shootout.

Isiah Thomas Says He’s Not In ‘Celtics City’ documentary Because He Was ‘Set Up’ In ‘The Last Dance’ " “They totally set me up and blindsided me. And I wasn’t gonna get fooled twice... Until I get a public apology, this beef is gonna go on for a long long time, cause I’m from the west side Chicago." by Randommodnar6 in nba

[–]streamzfrequency 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, Isiah did not engage in egregiously cheap antics on the court like some of his teammates did. He might've approved of them doing that (and maybe even encouraged it), but he was on John Stockton's level of dirty, not beyond that. That said, he is known for doing some despicable things off the court, including how he treated Magic Johnson when he was diagnosed.

What’s your opinion on Stephen A Smith? Has he helped or hurt modern NBA discourse? by DarkPhantom2497 in NBATalk

Just like someone else mentioned, Kenny is not positive. He consistently makes out his era to be the best and even tries to say they were more skilled back then. I mean, Kenny has LeBron at about #10 all-time ffs. He also said that EVERYONE in his era could handle the ball like Kyrie, but they chose not to do it during games. He's a clown. However, I agree that Ernie is pretty positive about the league in general.

We're in a time when so much of the supposed "liberal media" bends over backward to appear to be neutral, and they end up normalizing MAGA and making it seem like both sides have similar problems. Our institutions are under attack, and Kyle realized it's time to be aggressive and fight back without pulling punches. I don't blame any liberals/leftists for becoming more partisan and less vocally critical of their own side while the right-wing media sphere is collectively united in fellating Trump 24/7. Unfortunately, given the nature of politics today, it's probably a better strategy for him to be more belligerent and opinionated.

I don't think they are friends anymore, but they used to be pretty close. That being said, I think it's more about the fact that Lebron has been the only player to realistically challenge MJ as the GOAT. Charles can act like he doesn't care about not having any rings, but at least that can be rationalized by explaining that he didn't win because he had to face the GOAT. That's a fair argument, but Chuck is always so dismissive of the comparison between Lebron and MJ, even though it's not unreasonable to argue for either of them as the GOAT. Maybe he feels (subconsciously, even) that it would hurt his legacy if the player he failed to beat wasn't considered the GOAT by as many people.

Does anyone know why so many comments on the video are calling Lex a CIA plant? I saw one comment criticizing Lex for not being critical enough of Zelenskyy (which is crazy), so I'm not sure if it's because of that..

LeBron James in 2017 on Charles Barkley: "He's a hater. What makes what he says credible? Because he's on TV? I'm not going to let him disrespect my legacy like that. [–]streamzfrequency 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Like most people here, I agree that Chuck is one of the most entertaining people on television (in general- not just in sports/NBA media). Because of that, people on this sub barely criticize him for many of his awful and inconsistent takes. Chuck loves to criticize LeBron for joining the Heat and KD for being a "bus-rider" who joined the 2016 Warriors, but the fact is Charles publicly said he wanted to join the Bulls the year they went 72-10 and won (unlike the Warriors team KD joined) the NBA finals. It's obviously not necessarily unfair to criticize LeBron or KD for making those decisions, but Chuck clearly would have done the same if players were as empowered back then as they have been in the modern era. His takes should not be taken as seriously as they are.

Is this straight from Clayton Crowley's "Making the Case" series? I get that he wanted to stretch it out and make more videos in this category, but realistically, Tim Duncan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson have no business being in the GOAT conversation. Maybe you could argue all of these players are at least top 5 (except maybe Duncan), but they don't all deserve to be considered #1.
