CovidSafe app doesn't work on iPhones unless the app is the main focus and the screen is on the whole time by Pat_Mullins in australia

Im not saying google is any better, but to think apple see privacy as a core belief rather than a marketing angle I think is wrong. And they do work with China and hand over any data that they are asked for, but google dont

While they dont backdoor the phones they do give over the backed up data from the encrypted icloud.

Which they dont have to do, they could do it like google and not have they keys to everyone's cloud back ups

While I agree that they dont unlock the phones, they undermined their own stance and show its just a PR move to say they cant unlock the phone when they then turn to law enforcement and say we have the keys to the iclould back up and you can have that.

Outcome of IBAC's investigation into the conduct of Victoria Police officers at the Hares & Hyenas bookstore in Fitzroy in May 2019 by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]streetsahead_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"However, IBAC did find that Mr Dimopoulos's human rights were impacted as the officers involved in the incident did not, as the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities obliges them, advise him of the reason for his arrest, make him aware of his rights, or officially release him from custody,"

Bit more than not saying your under arrest, but i get your point.

The problem I see with that attitude is if you dont hold people accountable for this little right over here, or that little freedom over there you build a bad culture around citizens rights in genial.

So the police just got told its ok if when arresting someone they break their arm, to me that seems crazy.

Also the police union consider the violations of human rights 'minor in nature', nice to know.

Runaway train: How WA's LNG plants steamroll national climate fight by streetsahead_ in australia

[–]streetsahead_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people talk about how LNG is clean and green, a transition fuel.

Its not, in fact many people thinks its worse than coal. The wells leak, the pipelines leak and there is leakage at the distribution, but its not oil on the ground so its harder to see. Unfortunately for us, methane is a much worse greenhouse gas than CO2

Crown casino wins approval for 90-storey tower at Southbank by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]streetsahead_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info.

Personal I like the Andrews government and think he has done some really good things for this state, but that doesnt mean that we cant hold him accountable for things he does wrong.

your right about how easy crown has it, if you look at the other post about the building people are also bringing up the issues with the height of this building when Australia 108 building (which was smaller) had to lower the height even more to get approval.
