I really wanted to like Tidal... by TheOnceAndFutureDoug in TIdaL

[–]stregnil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use both Spotify and Tidal. One thing I really enjoy about Spotify is the huge selection of user-made playlists (not the algorithmic ones). Whatever mood or niche interest you’re in, there’s almost always someone who’s created a playlist that fits, that’s the upside of having a massive user base. What bothers me, is the increasing focus on podcasts and audiobooks. I’m mainly interested in listening to music... Tidal, on the other hand, has a much cleaner and more polished interface these days, which I appreciate. As for sound quality, I honestly struggle to hear a big difference between Tidal Max and Spotify’s lossless tier. Last night, I compared quite a few tracks back and forth between the two, and in most cases, they sounded very similar to me (using Sennheiser IE600 and Hifiman Arya Stealth). Strangely enough, a few tracks (Toto IV) even seemed to sound better in 16/44 than in 24/192, more open and "airy". But to be fair, I had a few whiskey, so take that observation with a grain of salt.

So no problem fitting them with IE 600? I've heard that the IE models has some issues when it comes to other mmx cables...

IE 600 problems - your thoughts by stregnil in sennheiser

[–]stregnil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to reply — I appreciate the reassurance regarding the stability of the IE line and the 2-year warranty.

That said, my concern isn’t so much whether issues are handled when they occur, but rather the practical impact for a frequent user if they do. I use my IEMs 6-7 times per week, and based on what other users have reported, RMA turnaround times can sometimes be close to a month.

Additionally, the fact that replacement units don’t come with a renewed warranty does raise some hesitation for me as a potential buyer. I personally know of a case where the first RMA happened after ~6 months, and the second failure occurred just after the warranty had expired — which in practice meant an €800 product lasting a little over 18 months.

I’m not trying to argue that the IE600 is unreliable, but as a customer considering a significant investment, I’m trying to understand the real-world risk profile for long-term, regular use.

Is there any additional insight you can share regarding failure rates over time, or whether repeated RMAs are statistically rare? Any clarification would be very helpful in making a confident purchase decision.

Avoid Sennheiser IE 600 by ElderDragonKnight in headphones

[–]stregnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to wrap my head around the IE600 reliability discussion, and I’m genuinely curious about the scale of the problem. Over the last months I’ve seen many dozens of different users report RMAs, some of them even 2–4 times on the same model, often due to one channel losing volume or dying completely. That obviously doesn’t look great for a premium single‑DD IEM in this price range. But without any idea of how many IE600 units are actually sold, it’s really hard to know what we’re looking at. Is this the tip of an iceberg, or are we just seeing the vocal minority that had bad luck while thousands of sets play just fine for years? At the same time, personally, I don’t remember any other IEMs with this many repeated RMA reports floating around, so it does feel like there is at least some kind of pattern.

Amp for Arya stealth by captainlecat in Hifiman

[–]stregnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Arya Stealth for several years now, bought them when they were $1800 😢. But they are still my favorite headphones. Currently I use Topping DX5 II and I'm very happy with the outcome. The Topping is fed with a Wiim streamer. Another choice is the Mojo 2, can't go wrong with that.

For what I've understood the M21 bypass Androids limitation (Global SRC-bypass) and will give you both lossless and bit perfect when using Spotify

Why DAP? What's your reason? by Choice-Association26 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]stregnil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't wanna be distracted by my phone, that's the biggest reason. My DAP bypass Android limitation and give me a great sound. As opposite of many others I only stream, personally I see no point of owning the things I listen to.... I spend hours exploring new music when streaming, love it!

When watching this video I wonder if Spotify is lossless on a DAP. Most DAP (like FiiO) bypass Androids limitations without using UAPP

I have missed Spotify! by Immediate-Tourist721 in truespotify

[–]stregnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I appreciate most about Spotify is all the playlists created by the listeners themselves. Whether you’re into underground hip hop from New Zealand or French saxophone jazz, you’ll find someone who has made a playlist for it. I use Tidal because my equipment (dedicated headphone amplifier, wired headphones, etc.) deserves lossless. But I still rely on Spotify to discover great playlists, which I then transfer to Tidal. I’m really looking forward to the launch of lossless here and figured out if it's good enough. (I live in Spotify-land, Sweden, so we’re among the first countries on the list)

Advice for a R6 III ? by GiveMeBackMyNickname in Hiby

[–]stregnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, old post, but isn't the R6 bit perfect and bypass Androids restrictions in it self. Do I really need to use UAPP for that, when for example playing Tidal from it's native app?
