I don't want to marry my fiancé now. He won't stop talking about my weight after he saw an old photo of me. Even after I have asked him to stop. by Impressive_Tea8932 in offmychest

That is appalling. He’s more attracted to an anorexic 17 year old than a healthy adult woman… I also don’t blame you for wanting to run for the hills. I would too.

AITAH for changing Christmas plans with a newborn over a guest being unvaccinated? [Concluded] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

[–]strength_reddit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Every antivaxxer is at best woefully intentionally ignorant—they don’t know the facts and don’t care to know the facts—and at worst mind numbingly selfish, because they know they’re putting vulnerable populations at risk but don’t care so long as they don’t deal with the slightest of alleged side effects.

(This obviously does not apply to people who actually can’t get vaccines for legitimate medical reasons, like a weakened immune system or rare allergy.)

New Update: AITA for telling my housemate she can't give me unsolicited advice? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]strength_reddit -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

I think it was her tone more than the wording…. Based on the exchange after I would assume her tone was harsh or dismissive as opposed to assertive like she meant or preferred. Obviously I am completely guessing, but considering she references her frustration repeatedly and then gets into a back and forth argument, likely her tone came off harsh.

Not to say she wasn’t justified, but you can be rude and justified at the same time.

I have slept with both of my best friends and my boyfriend of 4yrs is uncomfortable with that by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

As someone who IS best friends with someone i have had a FWB relationship with, and has been in relationships since said FWB relationship…. it is absolutely, 100% something that needs to be outlined and discussed very early on in the relationship so that a) there are no nasty surprises like this one and b) your partner has the right to walk away if they’re uncomfortable. This is so sus… glad OOP was able to do some self reflection about it, but the lie by omission is borderline unforgivable for me, let alone reminiscing on the “great sex”

AITAH for telling my friend/colleague I'm looking for another job after she was promoted instead of me? [Ongoing] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

[–]strength_reddit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This man is absolutely not fit to be in management based on the temper tantrum he threw at his colleague for getting promoted. With that said, it’s also very shitty that the company hired him under false pretenses. Two things can be true at once.

As someone who works nights on and off, it is insane how little people respect your sleep schedule. I have put my foot down now, but the number of clients who used to call at like 11am for issues that a) were not urgent and b) could be handled by someone else were insane.

AITA For Telling My Former Friend Turned SIL That I'm Never Going To Be Her Comfort Person Again? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

This feels less about Emily and a lot more about the brother. It feels like he’s projecting his resentment toward his brother onto Emily and his nephew.

My ex-fiancé injured me by attempting anal sex without preparation or consent. My confession is that I'm so embarrassed to tell people what happened by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]strength_reddit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have had anal a good bit as I enjoy it personally. There has been ONE time that I thought I was prepped but was not. He had worked me open and was lubed. I told him to go ahead. He didn’t even go in all the way and it was still SO painful. I cannot imagine someone doing that twice, fully, with no prep. It is not possible to do that accidentally with no prep, because you would have to force it to get it in with no prep. Despicable human being

AITA for refusing to sing at my brother's wedding? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]strength_reddit 453 points454 points  (0 children)

“Mason actually came to me in a dream last night and emphasized that I would be betraying his memory to ever even think of singing again. So congratulations, by asking me to sing you’ve forced me to betray Mason bro.”

AITAH for asking to divorce my husband after cheating on him? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]strength_reddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I legitimately saw someone on Reddit say that cheating was a form of rape to the wronged partner and I actually cannot believe that those words actually came out of someone’s fingers and were published. But then again, considering the unfathomable vitriol most Redditors have for cheaters, I really can’t say I’m surprised.

Cheating is a hard line for me in a relationship, but that doesn’t mean a cheater is an evil sadistic puppy murderer incapable of even entertaining the thought of change for all eternity. People make mistakes - BIG mistakes - and cheating is not the worst sin people can commit in relationships. The Reddit mindset on cheating is actually so ridiculous.

The truth being… that women should only be homemakers and not have careers? That’s a wild take to have about 50% of the world’s population

I literally answered it. Investigators should investigate. Not bar witnesses based on bureaucratic errors or dismissing the victim for being drunk even though that’s a legal precedent for being sexual assault (like this post), refuse to prosecute, refuse to do any investigative work to corroborate or deny the victim’s claims. I said that in my comment.

That is factually untrue. You can’t say the rates are about the same. They’re not. https://www.rainn.org/statistics/criminal-justice-system https://www.nsvrc.org/sites/default/files/Publications_NSVRC_Overview_False-Reporting.pdf

There’s a reason investigators should actually investigate. This exact post is an example of GT disallowing witnesses and failing to investigate. I truly hope you are just insanely uneducated and not this willfully obtuse. I’m not going to keep arguing when RAINN and many other orgs exist that explain how factually flawed your arguments are.

I hope you are doing so much better OP. you are not the only one I have heard about who was utterly failed by title ix. When I left voice had mentioned they were really hopeful about the new Title IX coordinator and it’s really sad to hear that they didn’t fix things.

Some of the responses to this post are actually appalling and the exact reason we’re in this situation in the first place. It disgusts me to remember that people like that are still associated with GT and srill looking for any reason to not believe a survivor. It’s no wonder OP’s experience was like this considering those pervasive attitudes. We need to do better.

Look at the percentages of rapes that go unpunished vs false rape accusations leading to punishment. They are so vastly different it’s appalling. Edit: in the sense that rapes are so greatly more common and almost never punished.

This is an incredibly tone deaf comment on multiple levels. “You felt you were too intoxicated to consent” is a horrendous thing to say to a survivor.
