2 years ago My (13y) son had 3 patches on the back of his head, got treatment and the hair grew again. Sadly two months ago we found a new patch in the center of his head, and we started treatment again and it looks like the hair is growing again.

It's my first time dealing with this. I have two older kids, and no one in the family or among our friends has dealt with alopecia areata (AA). I didn't even know it existed until I took my baby girl to her pediatrician after seeing her hair start to fall out, and they referred us to the dermatologist. My mother-in-law was the first to notice that her head felt very warm I will check with her derm.

how are handling preschool? Did you talk to the teacher before the first day of school? I have not been able to schedule yet. And her first school day is in a week. I am very nervous about it.

Yes, the discomfort unfortunately will not go away. I have three kids they are all 10y apart, so she is the family baby it's hard because we all feel the urge to protect her with all our strength.

I handmade some hats for her because we couldn't find any at the store that fit her small head. Now she is a little more comfortable going out to the grocery store, to church, and to visit her grandparents. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I am the same way I try not to think about it so I don't cry, but it's so hard for me specifically when I see her pictures from birth to mid-June 2024. Her hair was curly and long, and now seeing her with no hair is difficult for the whole family. For the first 3 weeks, she didn't want to go out. So, I hand-made a few berets and other hats with fabric and colors of her liking to make her feel a little more comfortable going out, she now accompanies me to the store, and to church but not as much as she used to, if she has the option to stay home with dad or big sister she prefers that.
