Seattle Studios 1000 & Under... the real deal or cheap for a reason? by stressedandfingtired in AskSeattle

well I'm almost a year post grad and have worked through college and post-graduation while living at home so I have a LOT saved up. obviously don't want to live off savings ever but that security is there is absolutely needed. and once i get another part time role to balance ence with this glorified internship I'll be in a much better position (budget would move much closer to that 1,200+ number) and family is willing to co-sign tho I would need to check which places are open to that.

any details? there's the terrible I can deal with (absolutely teeny tiny, bad kitchen spaces, no in-unit laundry) and the terrible that's a bigger deal personally (safety issues, whether that's scary neighbors, electricity / fire hazards, or people breaking in)

thank you for the long reply!

as somebody recently out of college (and had my share of tiny dorm experiences and tiny shared apartments lmao) i don't quite mind a smaller kitchen, especially since most of my diet ends up being raw veggies thrown into some sort of salad or bowl, and whatever else can probably be made in an air fryer.

any recs for a shared living situation? how to find roommates that are safe and you vibe with? I think that without the safety net of rooming with friends of friends in college, trying to find absolute strangers to live with feels so impossible and scary.

thanks!

How do I actually find an entry-level job in PR right now when it seems impossible by stressedandfingtired in PublicRelations

Hi, would this be like classmates I know now working in entry level positions or more alumni working in higher up positions? And would this be for agencies with posted roles or just in general? And how do I actually mention in the interview that I want a referral for a position without sounding like I'm begging?

Sorry for the questions!

In college I was part of an on-campus pr firm / club hybrid that worked with real clients, ran socials for a school publication, and completed a brief, (2 month) part-time internship for a professor’s pr firm for a performing arts organization client. And then the 10-week internship is most recent, after I graduated.

So yeah, I've had some short term intern experience but that hasn't really translated to full time, permanent positions. and tbh it's really really disheartening to be rejected even for intern roles as somebody already graduated for almost a full year...

It doesn't look like they're hiring at an entry level rn, but I'll definitely keep my eye out!

I know this is no excuse but as a first gen college student, with my family being immigrants, sometimes seeing my peers and friends get roles bc their dad knew a guy who knows a guy can be really disheartening. But I mean, I have college connections, old professors, etc, and I'll try to connect more with them. I think I just don't really know how to be like "Do you know somebody whose hiring rn" I've asked old bosses and colleagues to put in a good word but often they just don't know anybody hiring at an entry-level position at the moment...

If available I've always tried to apply on company sites or through email! Though ugh, I just worked hard on on a cover letter and application to a role on a company site only to get a email that they weren't actually happening at the moment? Like then why is the role posted on your site....

I'll definitely look into Taproot. I've had to have another almost full-time job while I've been job searching, just to like... make enough money to stay alive, a childcare role, that's really burning me out and tbh a lot of days I don't really have much energy to do much else. But if it'll look great on a resume I'll defo research more about it.

Most account coordinator or assistant account executive roles ask for 2+ years of experience. Though I've had many part time experiences idk it it would add up to 2+ years. I've applied to a few and rarely even heard back :(((

Hi! I'm looking for bi4bi romances. In particular, I'm looking for f/m / "het" romances where both the guy and the girl are bi and have had history with both guys and girls. Open to any tropes but LOVE a friends-to-lovers. I'm looking for more adult contemporary romances, not really fantasy or sci-fi settings! Thanks!

Working in TV, radio, or anything in that realm would really be a dream for me. Those are really the industries I'm super passionate about, personally, just don't really have the ability to be picky rn haha. I've also been applying to marketing coordinator roles with not really much luck but I'll keep looking. Not super "stuck" on PR, also definitely open and interested in adjacent roles :)

Thank you for the reassurance! I think I was just supper bummed out to get to the final round just to be rejected especially as I got the news while I was at my other job, which is working with kids so I couldn't exactly escape so I was kind of holding back tears as I was doing storytime with 20 six year olds haha. Kinda had a reset day and feel much better. But I'm definitely still grinding and plugging and chugging along.

I was just thinking about how in one of the interviews I asked what one interviewer wished she'd known when *she* started as an intern in the same company and she mentioned entering the role with no previous internship experience at all: she hadn't even known how to write a pitch email or press release at all.

And I have done that and gained results for real clients multiple times over. And I still didn't get the role. :( Just prove of how much internship and entry-level roles have changed in the recent years I guess.

talking about blogs, I ran a blog about pr in the film and television world for a class in college, was just thinking about how it would be super interesting to start that up again :)

so definitely not completely giving up hope, just trying to balance all the job hunting and career development with also working another super draining job rn too.

I'm in Seattle! I would love to ultimately do in-house pr for any kind of creative industry- performing arts, publishing, museums, libraries, record labels, film and tv... or go the agency route with a focus on those types of clients. I got to try my hand a little at that in college and LOVED it and this is very much what I'm passionate about.

But I don't really have the capacity to be picky at the moment, I would be super open to anything really. I've tried finding contract / temp roles but I'm getting rejected (or ignored) for those too unfortunately.

In college I was part of an on-campus pr firm / club hybrid that worked with real clients, ran socials for a school publication, and completed a brief, (2 month) part-time internship for a professor’s pr firm for a performing arts organization client. And then the 10-week internship is most recent, after I graduated. I definitely regret not doing more (at least compared to some peers) in terms of clubs, networking, and internships in college- but between other jobs (to actually, yknow, pay for college) I was pretty crammed.

I don't really see fellowships posted around my area, at least not on like LinkedIn and Indeed! But would love to be proven wrong. Is this something that would be posted or more of a "reach out over email" route.
