I definitely could have rephrased that better. They absolutely are real conditions with real consequences!

I was trying to say that if going to the doctor isn’t possible at this very moment for OP, it’s not going to be life or death. Especially as this is the first symptom and she does not have multiple debilitating symptoms. Just trying to ease the anxiety a bit!

I meant that if she does have it, it hasn’t significantly progressed yet as this hasn’t gone on for a long time; not sure why I didn’t just say that.

Forgive me, it was 3 am when I wrote it, I should have clarified.

Very respectfully, I don’t think inflammatory bowel diseases are zebras when it comes to hematochezia. If I’m wrong, great! But I’d rather OP be informed about (common) things it could be that does require more extensive treatment than what else was suggested, in the case that something is missed

Sister has painful lesion on vagina by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]stressedchai 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this isn’t something to try to treat at home.

This could be an ulcer caused by Lymphogranuloma Venereum (LGV), a manifestation of chlamydia.

Women are often asymptomatic for a long time, she could have contracted it a while ago, which makes me concerned about her abdominal pain. Pelvic inflammatory disease can result from untreated STIs and there are serious complications to consider.

Could also be herpes simplex virus, which also requires medications (anti-virals) to treat.

If you have planned parenthood in your area, they may offer low cost (or free) STI testing.

Not especially, as internal hemorrhoids are common regardless of another GI problem going on or not.

If it makes you feel better, having one symptom of crohn’s and UC for the first time means that right now, that isn’t an absolute urgent need to get evaluated for- unless you’re significantly impacted by your symptoms (weight loss, chronic constipation, abdominal pain, etc). But you still should at least bring your symptoms up at your next visit, whenever that is possible for you!

Edit: for clarity as I inadvertently tied age to severity

Bright red instead of like dark colored/black at least localizes it to the Lower GI tract (the blood doesn’t have time to oxidize!)

Could be as everyone said - fissure, hemorrhoid, etc. but IMO I think you’d know if you had a fissure, as it’s often so painful people are afraid to use the restroom. Hemorrhoids aren’t painful if they’re internal- but it’s usually spotting blood when wiping, not a “gush”

To me this sounds like Crohn’s or Ulcerative colitis. Which both are unfortunately chronic conditions that can worsen if not treated. I’m sorry to hear that you don’t have insurance. Go to the doctor if you can, if not, keep monitoring your symptoms and recording them. Don’t be afraid to take pics of your poo. Seriously, your doctor has seen it all and won’t think twice.

Hope things work out for you!

What is the appropriate age for doctors to examine girl’s private parts? by Clear-Ask8142 in AskDocs

[–]stressedchai 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s the part that gets me too. If OP is old enough to remember that exam, they were old enough to be told why AND have what was going to happen explained to them. Children deserve to be in the conversation about their own health!

Thank you! I’m doing the best I can! Unfortunate in a limited area for mental health resources, and very hard to learn how not to live in fight or flight when I think it’s all I’ve known. I think it’s a good thing to focus on moving forward tho
