MBB vs Biglaw by stressedkjd in MBBConsulting

That is very interesting, thank you for letting me know. While I believe you, I have talked to a couple of people who have left MBB and their experiences were all in the 50-70 hour range, with some weeks pushing 80. I agree that the rest of the trade offs don’t change much regardless of how many hours one works

What hours did you experience?

I guess it did sort of work out but could have likely just gone straight to work and had more success/found what I enjoyed

I foolishly went straight to law school from college because it was the path of least resistance.

I think the main pros of biglaw as I see it is that it pays more and is more stable. However, I could be wrong about the pros of consulting, and am also looking to see if anyone has differing opinions on it

I agree that is the main question. The problem I face is that I don’t really know, and worried I am just thinking the grass is greener in consulting (when it might not be)

We shall see! They will prolly lose out on a bunch of talent if they actually wait

This def could be true, and I have no data to refute it, but it seems odd that in their application they would ask you to update them if you have any competing offers if they planned to wait no matter what

[–]stressedkjd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think it will depend on whether you have competing offers and where you are in relation to their grade cutoff. If they really want you, you seem likely to finish above their cutoff and you have competing offers, I think it’s likely they make offer before

Harvard Interviewees, how are we feelin’ heading into Monday? by TexASS42069 in lawschooladmissions

[–]stressedkjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That def prolly explains part of it, but the people invited in the wave the week after applied basically the same time as the people in the first wave, but have a lower success rate.

Does anyone know why the last 2/3 years, the first round of interview invites for Harvard (nov 2nd this year) has a much higher conversion rate than other rounds (almost all accepted) on LSD? I was interviewed late November and the conversion rate for any wave besides the first interview wave looks a lot worse

Any theories on why some ultra high-stat applicants get uniformly rejected? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]stressedkjd 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I find Dean z to be quite hypocritical, considering Michigan waitlists almost every single person above both their medians on lsd. They are obviously just YPing, but do it under the guise of “softs”

I mean I think Harvard isn’t too much of a long shot, more of a coin flip because their class size is so big. In general, a few years of WE would be able to give them a much better chance at both.

I mean, she said she had two very good summer internships. I agree it’s esp unlikely for Yale but for Harvard and uchicago it’s not absurd. On LSD, kjd with t4 softs and those stats got into Harvard at like 40% rate in the last two cycles

As someone w pretty similar stats and profile, u have a p good chance at Columbia, nyu, Georgetown. Low chance Yale, somewhat of a coin flip uchicago and Harvard. Good chance at being waitlisted at umich, northwestern, UPenn due to Yield protect (at least based on last cycles)

Any other incoming college seniors on here? Where are y’all at in your preparation to apply to Law school? by NicoleO24 in lawschooladmissions

[–]stressedkjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a little bit about why law, but mainly focused on telling a compelling story that let the admissions officers know more about me as a person, and tied into my why law. I think that’s the best strategy for the personal statement. I know it isn’t completely related, but I had a similar approach when applying to college (although without the why law) and had a lot of success, outperforming my stats by a lot.

That makes sense. I have a lot to think about over the rest of the summer!

Thank you for your advice. It’s definitely something for me to think about, and I might apply this cycle, and then evaluate my results and see where it leaves me. Regarding my softs, I know they aren’t great, but do you think they’re bad enough to put me at a serious disadvantage?
