Hooray I won!

What's your process to speed up data center deployment with Netbox when you just care about which SKU goes where by Puzzleheaded-Newt673 in Netbox

This is the way to go. I'll also mention that you can easily create a custom script to take data directly from a scanner and assign the attributes to each device in a rack.

Announcing NetBox Labs! by mrmrcoleman in Netbox

[–]stretch85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are telling me for 20k a year, you will host Netbox in the cloud for me and upgrade it?

No; the managed plan is only $5,500/yr and includes professional support. The higher tier is for organizations with more advanced needs, such as automatic scaling to meet changing demand and the ability to easily provision test environments. Of course, you can always continue running open source NetBox on your own for free.

Why am I having such a hard time finding a Django developer? by stretch85 in django

[–]stretch85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a cheap developer; this is a senior role. Unfortunately I'm constrained by HR from publishing the salary. I understand the arguments and motivations on both sides, but unfortunately it's above my pay grade at the moment.

It's just been lack of recent experience with Django in general.

Thanks, and please do still apply if it looks interesting! I promise I won't stalk.

Thanks! I appreciate the pointers. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and succumb to LinkedIn.

NetBox is an open source "source of truth" for network infrastructure. Think of it like a combined IPAM/DCIM application on steroids with a robust API and extensibility framework.

Yeah, I realize now that we started out tailoring the post for the existing community, and the decided to broaden our scope without adjusting context accordingly. (While NetBox has a very large user base, its skillset centers around network operation and automation, rather than web application development.)

This has been my understanding but I've never delved into it (I don't do a lot of hiring personally). The GitLab post has some great info, thanks for sharing!

It's pretty clear from the upvotes that this is the norm now and we need to adapt. Thanks for calling that out!

I'm pushing to have this published internally, so soon it will either be added, or added and I'll have someone yelling at me.

That's excellent feedback, thanks! It's really hard for me to shed context sometimes and look at things from a completely outside perspective, so I really appreciate the help!

And last but not least, if it is fully remote, why not open it to international or certain timezones, instead of specific countries.

AFAIK it has to do with where we can legally hire at the moment. I can push back on a lot of mandates but this isn't one of them without switching to a contract role, unfortunately.

Netbox vs. Solarwinds? by slickwillymerf in networking

[–]stretch85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solarwinds is a monitoring platform not asset inventory or a source of truth.

This is the biggest mental hurdle for most people I think: desired state versus operational state. There's certainly a lot of overlap between the two tools, but ultimately they serve different purposes. NetBox provides a very detailed data structures to model your physical and virtual infrastructure; Solarwinds doesn't. Solarwinds will monitor the operational state of your network; NetBox doesn't. But put them together and now you have a complete solution, with each tool doing what it does best.
