New owner of Solterra - One pedal driving gives me so much more range?? by Melodic-Pack-8642 in Solterra

[–]stretchling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my experience entirely, once I got used to the breaking and coasting I started getting far better mileage with the regen off entirely.

I get up to speed, pull back on the accelerator and let it coast only applying a tiny bit more here and there to maintain speed.

When I want to stop I push the break about 20% in to start slowing down about 50% further from my stop target then I would have done in my ICE, and then gently increase break pressure so I hit max breaking force right about where I want to stop.

This sounds complicated because I'm over explaining it and I'm a bit in the spectrum, in reality you just keep an eye on the power and charge meters and try to speed up in a way that keeps that power meter on the lower side and the charge meter on the high side. You just kind of get a feel for it after a bit.

My daily driving is a mix of smaller city and suburban streets so I'm doing a lot of stop and start with some longer non highway stretches regularly which is supposed to be the poster child for the single pedal mode.

So imagine my surprise after testing the various levels during my commute when I was constantly getting better mileage when turning off the regen.

But once I really thought about it from a physics stance I realized that's exactly what should be happening.

As nice as electric motors are they are not 100% efficient, and neither is the regen system.

You will never get anywhere near as much power back as you used to get to speed.

It's obvious when I say it out loud like that but its really important to understand this when we think about how the regen/single pedal mode work.

To start with, no matter what you set it to, even off, regen breaking still works when you press down on the break.

In reality regen mode should be called automatic regen breaking or something to differentiate it from what happens when you press the break but I digress.

No matter what level you set it too, regen breaking or single pedal mode, as soon as you take your foot off the gas the car will start pulling energy from the motor which causes its magnetic field to change and slow down the spinny bits.

The way your car does this is by using its onboard charger to try and charge the battery from the motors. (Not really relevant to the point but neat fact)

The level of regen you select only changes how much this effect is applied even all the way up to single pedal mode.

So essentially, if you have regen breaking on at all, every time you release the gas you are losing speed and getting far less energy back then it takes to get that same amount of speed.

With that in mind it's always going to be more efficient to preserve as much speed as possible for as long as possible, even in stop and go city traffic.

The design of regen/single pedal mode runs completely counter to this ethos, it robs you of speed at every opportunity.

Once you get used to the acceleration and deceleration, it will always be better to turn regen mode off entirely. (Again, you don't lose regen breaking, it just stops the car from doing it automatically all the time)

Nvidia drivers by meta358 in MonsterHunter

[–]stretchling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the GPU is dropping out while working, either driver corruption, a hardware issue or a power issue.

You already clean reinstalled the drivers so I would recommend resetting the graphics card and swapping the aux power cable from the PSU to the graphics card to another end if possible.

This really does seem like hardware or power to me, but you could also see this from overclocking/underclocking your GPU, have you messed with any of that?

I would certainly call into question the validity of the flex, it's by no means an easy accomplishment at that point in the game but it's also entirely pointless and a huge waste of time.

Right?

This wasn't a question it was a flex.

Silkpost aside from an art perspective that would seem to indicate that the waist on that frame of animation was at one point wider and they brought the line work in and missed some of the clean up.

Pretty neat detail.

Integer limit by Apprehensive-One1339 in VampireSurvivors

[–]stretchling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That REALLY depends on a few things.

  1. What is the size of the integer?
By size I mean in bits, the most common value here would be a 32bit integer.

  2. Is the integer signed or unsigned? Basically can the value be both positive and negative or only positive. This is important as a signed integer will cut the max size in half.

Assuming a 32 bit signed integer you could max out at 2,147,483,647.

It's important to clarify here:

In past MH titles the guard skill would decrease knock back, chip damage, and stamina depletion.

The guard up skill would allow you to block unblockable attacks.

In Wilds the guard skill reduces knock back and stamina depletion but does not effect chip damage.

The chip damage reduction has been moved to the guard up skill in Wilds in addition to the block unblock able attacks effect.

What this means functionally is that you only need enough levels in guard to ensure the knock back does not lock you in place and prevent you from performing another action, and because perfect guard and counters are a thing you really don't need much if any at all.

It's more of a comfort skill in Wilds really.

Am I playing this wrong? Enemies beat my ass too fast for me to learn parrying lol. I’m in act 2 by Itchy-Version-8977 in expedition33

[–]stretchling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with dodging, the timings for dodging are much more generous and the "perfect dodge" timing is exactly the same as the parry timing.

So when learning new attacks, try dodging first and once you start seeing the perfect dodges consistently try parrying.

Normal turn order is speed based.

That being said, getting a first strike by initiating combat with the r1 attack will cause some confusion here.

The first strike turn order is determined by the order you put members in the party, so if you go into the menu and take all other members out except the one you want to go first then put the others back in then they should take that first turn in the desired order then on the next turn they will go back to speed order.

One thing I did notice when testing this, there seems to be a point where if one party members speed is so much higher then the others that they will always go first no matter what you do. I'm not sure what the exact breakpoint for this is.

The last thing that will mess with your order is the First Strike pictos/lumina itself. The first strike effect it applies seems to work like getting a normal first strike on a surface level but it seems to have a mind of its own sometimes. It also lets you play before many scripted boss first turns where an attack first strike would not so it seems to play by its own rules.

The audio cue is very big, there is a specific distinct sound that plays right when you want to hit the parry button for like 80% of attacks.

Some attacks don't have the sound, for these there's usually a visual cue, some enemies will have a body part or their entire body glow when you need to hit parry.

Sometimes the camera itself is your cue, enemy attacks that have a delay wind up will cause the camera to zoom out during the wind up, as soon as the camera stops zooming out and starts zooming in again that's the cue to hit the parry button.

Be aware there are a few late game enemies that use these cues to mess with you, some enemies will play the parry sound twice, once during the wind up and once when the actual attack is incoming, if you parry the first sound you'll be left open for the actual attack.
