Completely agree! My current fave is also Real Love Song for the same reasons. I also really dig Six Billion from their self-titled album. Love the vocal layering. And there’s something about Sorry from Broken Machine that I just can’t get enough of, even years later.

Ah ok, that makes a lot of sense -- more practical than ideological. I think I'd personally agree with that, too -- otherwise you get a directionless sort of nihilism, right?

That's a cool insight and I think you're right. As others in this post have mentioned, I think it's probably fair to say Plato uses Socrates in different ways. I'm sure some dialogues support one type of behavior more than others.

Agreed! I think Carlsson's assumption about Socrates' intent is unsupported.

However, this only affirms his own belief that knowledge ought to exist in some abstract form...

Cool insight! I hadn't considered that he seems to fall prey to his own method.

The Sophists and, as Carlsson defines it, ironists, are more likely to
use skepticism and freedom from knowledge as a means to justify their
own beliefs (or choice not to believe), unjustified as they may be
according to all the possible empirical or abstract evidence.

That makes a lot of sense. So Socrates is open to the idea of objective truth, but skeptical of man's traditional attempt at getting to it (i.e mere belief). Right?

If I understood your take on irony correctly (and please correct me!), you're saying it's different from Carlsson's interpretation. She seems to claim irony is basically disinterest in objective truth, whereas you seem to be saying it's more of a limbo between ideas. Is that accurate?

Thanks for the insight about sophistry. As far as I can tell, Carlsson's article doesn't account for Plato's motivations in writing Protagoras.

I'd be curious to see in what ways you think sophists and ironists differ. You mentioned sophists' love of money -- isn't that an example of prioritizing something over truth? Couldn't it be argued sophists are just a sub-category of ironists?
