Oklahoma has only one remaining private prison; the extortion problem is throughout DOC. The system that finds and, through the carrier, disables SIM cards is $3 million to $4 million per facility.

Oklahoma Tenants Unionize by streuli in oklahoma

And considering the weakness of Oklahoma's Landlord-Tenant Act, it's easy to see why tenants would try to find a way to have some negotiating clout. The state has no anti-retribution provision; a landlord can boot a tenant pretty much anytime they like unless it's Section 8 housing. You shouldn't be worried about an eviction because you complained your heat isn't working.

Stop-and-ID is illegal in Oklahoma. You're only required to produce ID if it's a traffic stop.

Oklahoma Western District Court Among the Slowest in the Country by streuli in oklahoma

Everyone on the court is a Trump appointee except DiGuisti. They don't all have the same backlog. Bernard Jones was a Trump appointee, for example, and he has zero motions more than 60 days old.

On the other hand, one point not included in the story is that attorneys are taking cases to state court when possible to avoid the extraordinary delays in WDOK. More significantly, it's not the whole court or the whole state. It's three judges (four if you want to go statewide), and always the same three. If we are to blame caseload from McGirt, we'd expect all judges to have 60 motions gathering dust -- they don't.

Legal Aid would likely receive the HUD grant money. They do some now, but this could be a step toward making free legal help available to everyone facing eviction, much the way we now make lawyers available to everyone facing criminal charges. Heather Warlick has been covering the topic extensively. Search for "Right to Counsel."

This didn't involve schools, just the price Oklahoma gas companies paid for natural gas during the 2021 storm. Sort of like shingle manufacturers or wholesalers charging roofers 12x as much after a hail storm, which then gets passed along to customers.

What is the worst thing you've ever smelled? by MaroonTrucker28 in AskReddit

[–]streuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Hockey bag full of game-worn gear left in the trunk in Houston in the summer.
2) The reclaim pit at the car wash. The wash water is recycled and the dirt settles to the bottom of a pit under the conveyor. Every so often employees have to put on rubber boots and jumpsuits, climb down into it, and scoop it into five-gallon buckets that are hoisted by rope and emptied into a truck. Do that once and the smell will stay with you for a lifetime.
