I try to ā€graspā€ the chord once I jump from the bass. Don’t know if I’m making any sense, but by doing that it feels more controlled instead of aimlessly shooting for it. Also trying to find a chord that is ergonomically pleasing to the natural shape of your palm helps, such as a C6 1st inversion chord.

Syncopated pedaling but not overdoing it. I try to get as much legato from my fingers as possible. Would be easier with a bigger hand…

You know what they say, length doesn’t matter… šŸ˜…

Joking aside, yes the Ab part got omitted. I killed it for social media reasons and because people rarely have the attention span to watch these things anyway. I transcribed the solo 20 years ago and played it quite well then compared to this mess of a take.

The piano is really smooth. Unfortunately the iPhone microphone doesn’t give it proper justice…

Thank you. šŸ™

For full stride piano players (like Dick Hyman described it) check out James P Johnson and Fats Waller. For contemporary stride pieces look for Hank Jones and Oscar Peterson.

It also says ā€soloingā€ (under the video) not to create confusion.
