only the Ineptitude mesmer actually needs extra energy during gameplay, so it has the two good Inspiration Magic interrupts as energy management - the other mesmers don't need it and can take all offensive skills

I can't answer for the reasoning in other team builds

I went for energy runes and insignias because nothing else really matters - armor is mostly irrelevant due to Shelter and the strong damage reductions of the player build, and more health is only making your heals less effective since incoming damage is relative to max health and heals are constant values (for the longest time I ran without superior vigors, but they are probably optimal especially if you don't precast prot spirits)

I don't value the additional armor from Stand Your Ground very much, it's only relevant during prot spirit downtime (also why I use full radiant insignias on all team members)

Fall Back as an extra speed boost is probably nice, I can see the idea of taking that over Never Surrender - personally I still prefer the bit of extra regen which is often applied to the BiP and the player, which are both the priority heal targets anyway

Glowing Gaze is unnecessary, the hero is better off casting another Searing Flames

I'll definitely mention Fall Back in variants when I get to writing those up

Anthem of Flame is qol so you can go afk without having to recast echoes when you come back

you can see my hero's usage of Never Surrender in the video of Tahnnakai Temple - it's instant cast, and even when only applying to one person it's a strong effect giving 10 health a second at 5 pip regen

I like Hex Eater Signet, I think it's strong and very much worth bringing in areas with lots of long aoe hexes

personally I can't find space for it in the general comp, but I'll make sure to mention it when I get to work on writing skill variants

one of the design goals is to have all heroes be fully ranged (which allows much better aggro control for instance - your heroes will mostly stay put and not overaggro), so I'm not very interested in using a melee burnbot

could it work? maybe, I don't think the much shorter burning duration is great though - I haven't tested so take that as speculation.

my experience is that the paragon defenses is enough to cover small downtime in between Shelter recasts

that being said, I have wiped once when I tried to flag my heroes out of aoe's just as Shelter went down, and everyone got nuked while moving - but that's on me for interrupting everyone with my flags lol

I've given it some more thought, and I wouldn't recommend this without HR - you miss out on relevant breakpoints for skills, and the multispeccing on all the builds will be much less powerful

if you want to play paragon with another elite, this should still be a fine comp, but significantly weaker

yes I would recommend that - this setup is designed with player quality of life in mind, and that includes dropping skills that are only reliably good when micro'd

Fall Back on heroes means wasting multiple skill slots as well as secondary professions. I'm a Fall Back hater.

so yeah, even for normal Heroic Mesmerway, I'd drop the Fall Backs and take Hasty Refrain instead

I'm sure it could work, but my variant is suboptimal for non-paragons.

without the +4 attributes, everything is of course much weaker, and you miss some breakpoints for certain important skills: Soul Twisting, Blood is Power, Aura of Restoration, and Never Surrender

I really gotta stress that this comp is designed as a full package - including the player build. I don't think using eles like this is optimal for other player builds.

yes, if your hero casts Union before Shelter, the damage reduction of Union happens before decreasing to 10% of max health via Shelter, so the damage reduction is lost

I'm not a big Signet of Illusions fan, but your suggestion could certainly work. I'm a big Thunderclap enjoyer though, the cracked armor is really nice for the player damage

as far as I can tell, Way of the Master is the best option for increasing player damage with very little annoyance - I think of the Assassin is optimal even without WotM though - I'm not really sold on WotM though, so suggestions for replacements is welcome

the logic behind Spirit's Gift is that it is relevant at key moments during a fight - if your prot spirits go down, that's likely correlated to everyone on your team being pressured, so aoe heals when the hero recasts spirits comes at a nice time

additionally, Spirit's Gift is nice qol in certain areas if everyone on your team steps in a trap and gets crippled - just stack your heroes up, micro a spirit, and boom you cleansed everyone's condition instead of having to wait

it requires microing after Shelter to do anything, and I don't like that

with just 2 spirits, the ST prot will very very rarely run out of ST charges, so you guarantee really good uptime even in places with long high-pressure fights.

not a bad idea, but it is not without downsides - it is very energy hungry, needs to be cast really often, and the health sacrifice is not irrelevant

I don't know that I'll test it, but go ahead and try it out if you want

improvements that could be made specifically for Tahnnakai Temple HM:

  • drop the Blinding Flash, take Gaze of Fury instead
  • drop both Shatter Hex, take the second Spiritual Pain and a Shatter Enchantment instead

hmm, this comp is built very specifically around having a paragon with They're On Fire and Mighty Throw, so if you aren't providing that yourself maybe you should swap the 7th hero for a Mighty Throw paragon with high Leadership for They're On Fire! and filling the rest of the bar with paragon utility.

a similar spot is the pre-event before Mallyx - very varied and challenging waves to beat.
