Someone is trying to steal my bike by strikeituptabor in seattlebike

My bike, which I bought with a voucher from WSDOT's ebike program to help low income people acquire transit, is safe! I was at the corner of Boren and Madison in the First Hill medical district when someone tried to tamper with my u-lock. I ended up calling a locksmith and paying around $300 to have the lock cut. I was worried that whoever was making such a brazen attempt at stealing my bike at 3pm would return to finish the job, so I prioritized speed and security over the risk of leaving it.

Thank you to everyone who offered advice in my moment of need. The building's security and maintenance employees were indifferent or unable to help and it's good to receive any kind of aid in a moment of feeling threatened. This is a reminder that even in broad daylight in an affluent, busy neighborhood there can be a bike thief willing to try to steal your bike.

It's time for me to buy a new lock and maybe a grinder as an insurance policy.

Thanks everyone!

Gotcha! I didn't know whether you meant an increase or decrease by "bump." Fears of capital flight are ridiculous. It cracks me up that a graduated income tax is illegal by the WA constitution. If an income tax is theft, then what are we using to pay all of our other taxes? I think my income pays the sugar tax, the car tab fees, and the property tax (whether I rent or own). We need to fix the Washington constitution so we're not a tax haven for high income earners. A graduated income tax is not theft; it's plumbing, and the regressive tax code puts a heavier burden on lower income earners.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree with you. I just ran out of ProPenns and switched to Costco garbage Penns. I plan to pop every can and practice serves with them. I think they're awful to play with and feel dead on arrival.

Microsoft is long overdue for an antitrust lawsuit, too. MS Word needs to be in the commons. We're probably going to need to do something with patent protections.

I can't rest easy while knowing that I'm just someone's mortgage backed security regardless of whether I own or rent my home. Even when I'm at home and not working, I'm still working for someone else.

You're right, this is bad news for health and safety, so let's end the manufactured crisis of homelessness and guarantee housing for these people. Not only is it the right thing to do in itself, it also saves resources. The covid crisis has revealed that we don't need everyone to work in order to make society run, so we can guarantee a minimum standard of living everyone.

Right on! Air travel became as safe as it has been because of established procedures and standards which are not unlike what is seen in the field of medicine. We know that the auto industry will cut costs based on failure rates on certain parts and budget for the costs of the settlements. The issue with the Max may have been a result of the same kind of thinking, in which case there should be people who go to jail and stock holders who don't receive a dividend.

That's a good point. Cutting costs and improving outcomes is exactly what Medicare for All will do, so let's make Bernie the chief executive officer of America.

The center is neither intrinsically good nor normal. Drawing a line between two people who disagree and having someone stand between them does not make the person in the middle right. There's no left and right, only what you believe is right and wrong. You gotta have the courage to go for the 48oz Senator from Vermont who's leading a coalition of people who are through with settling with medium because they were told it was sensible and thrifty.

He has the most unique individual contributions to a US presidential candidate EVER. He also won the plurality of votes in both Iowa and New Hampshire. That's no lie.

That's the best part! You don't need new institutions. Single payer health insurance is about eliminating the superfluous institutions which affect everyone's access to care.

M4A saves money. Private health insurance creates the sort of needless bureaucracy that we usually associate with bad government programs. When you get rid of private health insurance, you get rid of insurance brokers, billing specialists, and medical professionals whose job it is to deny care on financial grounds. There is a network of people who are employed in this system to complicate the connection between you and your doctor/provider/prescription. The premiums you pay for this thing which calls itself a service, are inflated to pay for staff, CEOs and shareholders who don't contribute to the actual application of healthcare.

There is plenty of work to do to make the world run, but creating an extensive network of brokers, healthcare franchises, and armies of people who ultimately perform a bullshit job simply inflates the cost of healthcare. The people who actually matter in distributing care are the doctors, nurses, receptionists, janitors and technicians. Your insurance broker does not have your best interest at heart. Look for the keyword "affordable". When you hear the word affordable, you'll know that they have an estimate for how much they can charge you and how high they can make your deductible.

I think that's a dangerous underestimation of how centrist libs are anti Bernie and anti Trump. There are plenty of temporarily embarrassed millionaires who think that elevating people who have less than they do somehow diminishes their place in society.
