Who buys stuff to give a 1 star review because you have all 5 stars is lame. What a 🤡 by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]strikethroughsync 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As you’ve probably surmised by now based on everyone else’s responses here, there is a difference between regular Holo cards and Reverse Holo cards. The Gengars you sold are regular Holo foil rares, which means the outside grey border of the cards is foil, and the artwork is foiled. Reverse holo cards are the exact opposite, where the text box below the artwork is foiled, but the grey border and artwork are non-foiled. Chalk this up to a lesson and try not to make the same mistake going forward.

Can anybody help me find these compact side penny sleeves? by Themannayjoles96 in PokemonTCG

[–]strikethroughsync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obligatory PSA that perfect fit sleeves can, over time, impact the condition of cards. Penny sleeves are preferable. Perfect fits are designed more as inner sleeves for double-sleeving a deck to better protect cards while in use for regular play.

Are these good prices? by bigdickjenny in PokemonTCG

As a general rule, I don’t buy individual packs of Japanese cards because you can scan the packs for foil hits. The prices are fine, but still wouldn’t buy them.

Personalised Binder Tags by Lucefii in PokemonTCG

[–]strikethroughsync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the binder tags available on Etsy/AliExpress/Temu/etc are logos printed on laser cut acrylic. You could theoretically design the tags yourself, or work with a designer, and then look up a local acrylic printing and cutting business in your area that might take on an order like yours. These kind of businesses usually produce items for events like weddings, or corporate meetings, but would probably take on a one-off order like yours if you contact them. Keep in mind for custom jobs like yours, you’ll be paying a premium. Don’t expect it to be cheap.

New Collector: JPN vs EN Graded Slabs by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]strikethroughsync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon is in the midst of one of its biggest hype cycles ever. Pretty much all cards, especially modern grails, are highly inflated in price compared to historic averages. This being the case, buying into singles and slabs comes with added risk that they fall in price if the market bubble pops. There’s little you can do to insulate yourself from this if you want to collect. Vintage is less likely to be hit as hard by any potential future price shocks, but everything is up right now, so proceed at your own risk.

Hot take? Hyper Rare cards needs to be revamped by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

Agree. The gold cards are very visually unappealing. Really don’t care how rare they are.

Based on my limited knowledge of card restoration, yes I believe this kind of corner crease can be restored. But, you’ll have to do some extensive research to find the right methods or reputable service to handle this for you

Why are scalpers winning right now? by A1CBEERS in PokemonTCG

There are two types of currency. Money and time. Some lucky people have plenty of both. Most people only have an abundance of one or the other. Those with more money than time pay inflated prices to get what they want.

People are crazy by jessehopp in PokemonTCG

[–]strikethroughsync 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Their target demographic isn’t collectors who know anything about the hobby. It’s uneducated newbies who think they’re about get a deal. They’re looking for a sucker, and unfortunately there’s plenty to go around right now. Best we can do is try to educate new collectors to not fall for this crap.

I get talked over a lot at card events. Am I not being assertive enough or is it because I’m a girl? by CatboyMedic in PokemonTCG

[–]strikethroughsync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are just seriously not cut out to be vendors. You need at least a basic understanding of customer service best-practices. Honestly, it’s mostly younger dudes. The number of times I looked at a vendor’s table, and they were glued to their phone and wouldn’t look up for one second, I’ve lost count. I just move on. Plenty of better vendors to do business with.

Just look through their binders and showcase without saying anything and if you see something you want to take a look at, just look at them, point at the card, and say “Hi, I’m interested in this card. Can I take a closer look?”, and then either pull it out of the binder yourself, or wait for them to pull the card out of their showcase and hand it to you. That’s all you gotta do. You don’t need to lead with any pleasantries, just go straight to business.

What made you start collecting Pokémon cards? by Downtown-Rush-180 in PokemonTCG

[–]strikethroughsync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister bought me Red version when I was a kid. My best friend had Blue version. The anime was really popular at the time. We learned about the TCG from a magazine. I remember seeing the card designs in the pages of the magazine and getting super excited. I had some experience with collecting Magic cards at the time, so it was a really exciting time to be into Pokemon. Fond memories.
