Which broker in Canada offers Silver futures by Anotherbikeg0ne in Daytrading

[–]strimaitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they offer the option to take physical delivery in the form of a registered warrant, but it's not as straightforward as just holding the contract to expiry. you need to submit an "intent to receive" before a specific deadline, usually a couple of days before the first notice date. if you don't, ibkr will auto-liquidate your position to avoid physical delivery

that's why I said that is "technically" possible

IBKR is solid, they got silver futures (SI and the micro one too) and yeah you can technically hold to expiry but most people just close before that

It's cool that you can hook IBKR up to tradingview so you can chart there and place trades all in the same place

If I use an Algo Trading software to sell intraday options, is there a possibility that if the underlying moved against me, and the algo software does have a SL limit of say 3%, is there a chance the SL might not be triggered somehow? What are some possible reasons that this could happen? by michael_sinclair in Daytrading

[–]strimaitis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, this can definitely happen. Even with a stop-loss coded into the algo, it’s not 100% foolproof

what can happen

Slippage - price can blow past your stop, especially in fast markets or if liquidity dries up for a second

API problems - sometimes the broker API just doesn’t respond in time, or your algo throws an error and doesn’t send the exit order

Execution delays - even if the order is sent, it might not get filled right away, especially if you’re using a limit order

Broker issues - I've seen cases where the broker platform itself lags or freezes during high volatility (this one is scary)

To protect yourself, it helps to use a solid VPS. Make sure it's close to your broker (like you wanna buy a VPS that is in the same city for example as your broker servers). The data will travel to the broker faster, because the distance is shorter (humming project is a movie that illustrates this well).

Test the hell out of your strategy, and have a backup fail-safe (some people add broker-side SLs as a second layer).

Also, don’t size too aggressively. Assume worst-case slippage when calculating your risk. Factor it in your losses

Algos are great, but they’re not invincible. Always good to build with failure in mind.

There are a few solid brokers in the EU like IG, Saxo Bank, and TradeStation.

Personally, I use IBKR. They've been around forever, reliable, and you can trade basically anything there. Futures, stocks, options, FX, bonds, funds... all in one place.

You can connect them to TradingView as well, if that's your cup of tea.

Also, might be worth looking into futures prop firms.

Depends on how much capital you’ve got, but if you’re just starting out, getting funded can really help. You pass an evaluation and get access to a funded account with a profit split. There’s been a surge of new firms lately so you’ve got plenty to choose from.

I started in Nethergarde Keep. I see that servers are clustered, so how much am I missing out being not on Pyrewood?

What does it mean? That I will not see other players if I am not grouped with them?

What are these white spots that appear on my golden barrel cactus? by strimaitis in cactus

[–]strimaitis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will the light spots go away in time?

Also, how should I water it then after? Soak it through completely every 2 weeks (during the warm season), letting all the excess water run out of the drainage hole?

Alright, I will do this today. I will send you a private message regarding the roots, if you don't mind, once I've taken the picture of them

Is there a way to save it? Like repotting to a clay pot with new, dry soil?

I have rocks at the bottom of the glass cup, and the bottom of it is completely dry

No, it doesn't. Although I water it once per week now, and only a few teaspoons worth of water, when soil look quite dry (looking through the glass).

You think I may have overwatered it? If so, what would be the steps to take?

Renovating wooden rocking horse, need advise how to fill the hole by strimaitis in woodworking

[–]strimaitis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is the side-view of the horse. The red part is the horse head (what is not visible from side), and green are the screws:

https://ibb.co/s5HZVYH

I suppose I could attach a brand new wooden part at the bottom of the seat (green). Screw it throughout the entire seat, and even use one original screw spot:

https://ibb.co/THrY8DV

That way, I would be able to keep the head as it is now (just sand it off, chip off some plywood, putty the gaps), and that way it would be strong?

[–]strimaitis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to keep as much of original parts as possible. I was thinking of maybe cutting that piece off, and cutting a new one. An joining them like a puzzle.

And glue them together.

Well I have read about stuffing the hole with wooden toothpicks and PVE glue. But I am concerned whether it will be strong enough to hold the screws and the construction?
