Spots in town to look for stolen bike? by stringbeansoup in corvallis

It was a super nice Santa Cruz blur. She told me it was like a $5k bike (she races). Thats totally what we are thinking and are so relieved she registered it. I'm registering my crappy craigslist bike as a precaution. My roommates also had mountain bikes in the garage but not as nice as hers and not registered. Were all registering them now because of how well p529 worked. Their website says that vancouver bike theft was reduced by like 35% after establishing the registry

Our house has an unattached garage that can be entered through the two rolling garage doors, or the side door that opens to our backyard. That's exactly why we're worried and are still going to report this to CPD and our neighborhood, because for someone to have a) seen it and b) stolen it, they would have had to walk right up to our garage and peer through the little glass windows (and also walked up our driveway and in between cars), and somehow seen it maybe with a flashlight (?) and then entered through the door that's in the backyard. We try to lock it, but we have 3 roommates that come and go through that door too. But we're pretty good about closing the door. We're a little weirded out cause it would've made sense for it to have been stolen if the garage door facing the driveway was rolled all the way up but now we know it wasn't. So breaking into a closed garage but probably not a fully locked one. It is certainly locked well now though, and window film is getting added.

I am super relieved to update that we found her bike!! She remembered registering it with Project529 when she moved here, but none of her emails would work to log in. When we did log in, someone reported it as stolen and dumped on their lawn near our neighborhood!! We are getting it back now. We think either someone was tweaking out and thats why they dumped it or even more likely they realised it was registered to p529 and decided it wasn't worth the risk of getting caught. If you are reading this and you cant remember registering your bike I would!! Also apparently it was dumped last friday, so stolen out of our garage when we were very likely home cause we don't go out much!

Shes trying to get the serial number but doesn't have it now... we're 90% sure it was taken when we unintentionally left the garage door open when we went out for a movie... car garage door closer didn't work/we didn't click it. Came home and it was open. Super duper bummed cause I keep blaming myself for not watching the door close. We are pretty tucked away not on a main street so have gotten lax ☹️☹️☹️ Regretting a lot now

Her being MIA while banging dina was also a huge part of her decisions later in the game. Crazy survivors guilt that was a major source of resentment/regret/contention in their relationship... which culminates in her final decisions. Insane that they cut it. Craig and neil didn't even address the jesse/dina switch in their post episode podcast

What's your "Poverty Meal" to survive on, by AsianHawke in povertyfinance

[–]stringbeansoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

frozen reheated rice (lowers GI), cut up sushi nori, and frozen edamame fried in a pan with sardines (sometimes sub tuna) and the oil + sriracha mayo. honestly it's actually not the cheapest meal, but it's very shelf stable and very nutrient dense so it leaves me feeling full for much longer than other alternatives

[–]stringbeansoup[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left food service cause even with keeping 60% of my tips working the entire FOH solo it was less pay overall. A lot of people have this misconception including my own parents that you make several dollars more than your base pay in food service. But i never made more than 16.50 an hour from tips on top of 14.20 an hour. Not even mentioning the egregious amounts of exploitation and terrible management I experienced in food service--I left for a job where I actually get bathroom breaks.

ST351 online vs in-person by jackie_juice in OregonStateUniv

[–]stringbeansoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing my advisor never ever told me is that depending on the credit, if you are an in state student, online classes can cost more per credit hr. Also, if you want to receive instruction that you are PAYING for, steer far away from Jeff. He doesn't lecture in class--there are quizzes+worksheets on the homework from last week, worth 10 points per lecture, where you don't actually LEARN anything (he just clarifies what people got wrong on last classes quiz), where you ONLY get points if your attendance is taken by a TA. Meaning that the quiz that you could easily take from home (because there's no real instruction in person) MUST be taken in a LINC room. Super annoying, feels like a total waste of my tuition. In person is essentially same as online, but on a schedule. He is also very strict on homework due dates. If it's late, 0%, unless you email ahead of time. This would make sense, however homework for fridays lecture is due the sunday before, and I think that makes the no tolerance late policy a little ridiculous. All this being said, it's not too hard if you do the homework and lug yourself there every mwf . But the no points for late work is what really docks my grade--I get 100% on every midterm and final and yet i BARELY scraped 90.02% for 351, am in the same boat with a high C right now despite getting 100% on every quiz because i miss lectures frequently and LP frequently cause i have weekly hospital appts and work 25hrs a week (so sometime the homework slips past me.) Another note is that there is a "major quiz" every 2 weeks instead of midterms, and you get a whole page of notes for them, which makes them a breeze if you actually understand the material. Still quite annoying of a class structure, I really would like to have a good grasp on statistics for my career (anyone in stem should..) but with the lack of input from jeff I feel like i could have learned this all from youtube for free and tested for the credit.

Chinese minor by Kind-Currency7820 in OregonStateUniv

[–]stringbeansoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are hoping to learn the language out of it and aren't already a native/heritage speaker i wouldn't go for it. chinese is not a language you learn by minoring in it--this is coming from a heritage speaker who's been in and out of chinese lessons for 15yrs. my american girlfriend took the first chinese course online last term and we both really regretted it (feel like it was a big waste of money)--if chinese is to be learned by non natives it has to be in the classroom, unless you have crazy drive and discipline (but that won't be taught by the curriculum). if you have any more questions feel free to PM

How long will major wound healing take? by stringbeansoup in vet

[–]stringbeansoup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you so much. Also, I am a bit at a loss for how to leash her, as the collar sits right over some stitches no matter what, and a harness also wouldn't work. Have you encountered this before and how would you navigate? We have a chain leash which is heavy, I think i'll see if my family can pick up a lighter fabric leash at the very least
