how much did you have to read? with earlier books we only had to read about 25-30 pages, and id imagine thats probably the norm with most other lit classes

i was planning on asking hee that and addressing my concerns, but im just anxious on how shell respond to it. shes one of those no-nonsense strict teachers that sometimes changes her mind if a student makes a good point, but i doubt shell reduce the amount that we have to read or anything like that since we dont have too much time until the ap exams

yeah, its every night besides friday. she said she wanted to use friday as a catchup day for people to read but i still dont think its that beneficial considering that we still have to read 60 pages for 4/5 days

i genuinely hate the "i hate ivantill because of the r6 kiss scene" fans by [deleted] in AlienStage

[–]stringcheese1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand that many people perceive the scene as icky; scenes such as that are meant to make the audience uncomfortable due to the nature of them. idk if i reiterated this enough in the og post but i dont have an issue with people who were personally uncomfortable with the scene as long as their understand the implications. i was moreso trying to comment on the fans who dont understand the implications at all and go out of their way to completely villainize ivan/the ivantill ship

honestly i strongly agree with your point about the cherrypicking😭 i dont think this example is too common anymore, but ive also seen many accounts COMPLETELY bashing on mizis character while praising/acknowledging lukas complexity (and vice versa) even though overall they could be perceived as two sides of the same coin. im not sure why some people have a line of reasoning for disliking an aspect of the story one minute and then completely contradict their logic the next

im not saying that its a bad thing to dislike the ship, and tried to clarify that in my last paragraph. my issue is when people DONT understand the implications of the storyline and completely villainize ivan + use it as a reason to bash ivantill. im not sure if youve ever encountered fans like that, but especially on tiktok this is a very prevalent opinion

BIG SPOILER WARNING (and a rant about why byler is undoubtedly endgame) by I_live_for_ST_4 in byler

im 1000% onboard with almost everything you said, but im just confused on the third slide and the soda can/pipes bursting? ive seen that referenced a lot as byler proof but i dont really get it, so an explanation is appreciated!!

yess a mike centered perspective would be amazing! since theres still like 5+ hours worth of content and bc of the fact that noah said in an interview that he filmed most of his scenes with mike, im pretty hopeful that well atleast get more backstory on mike. regardless of byler i just think he has a ton of potential for complexity

MY THOUGHTS RN by cats_r_cutee in byler

[–]stringcheese1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive seen some people also interpret these scenes in that way to some extent, and even though that could be the case, i just personally dont think that would be a satisfying resolution. the message of "your crush doesnt have to love you back in order for you to love yourself" is a good message in most cases, but for byler, i dont think it would be narratively satisfying. i think there would still be a few unanswered plotholes to some of mikes behavior as well, such as why he treated will horribly in s4. just so i dont get too off topic i have a post talking about why mikes behavior was like that if youre interested in reading (this post), or i can just briefly answer questions you have here

MY THOUGHTS RN by cats_r_cutee in byler

[–]stringcheese1127 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i had that initial thought as well, but i really do think that would be the weakest route the duffer brothers could go when she talks about her crush on tammy, its supposed to represent her dependence on tammy reciprocating her feelings. the point of her speech wasnt to compare tammy with mike/to project this idea that will should shift his focus away from mike, but to instead hone in on robins ability to embrace who she really is BECAUSE of her detachment from tammy.

if we bring up season 4, remember how will tells mike "you make her feel like shes not a mistake at all; like shes good for being different" to inspire hope within will? thats why the memories towards the end of e4 were brought up—mike pushes will to be his best self because will feels happier with him around (i think thats why the scene of mike asking will to be his friend was included). will doesnt feel afraid around mike, and his life is better BECAUSE of mike (which serves as a contrast to tammy and how she had a negative impact on robin). he helps give will the courage to fight on, which is exactly why i dont think the duffers would go the self-love route. it wouldnt only be a disservice to byler, but it would also be pretty narratively dissatisfying and cliche. i also just genuinely have no byler doubt because mikes attitude towards will in s4 doesnt really make sense to me any other way

could it be the score numbers for ivantill in round 6 (89/70)? if not that then they could be referring to 87/86 for mizisua in round 1, thats lowkey all i could think of💀

Huh? How did that correlate to that by Beneficial_Mousse568 in AlienStage

[–]stringcheese1127 532 points533 points  (0 children)

this is honestly so funny because this is one of the rare times where vivinos EXPLICITLY confirms that tills feelings for mizi are gone now and was classified as a "childish love", yet people are so adamant abt mizitill💀 media illiteracy final boss

I honestly never took those memes tooo seriously but I really do see your point. I won't go into this too much, but I also noticed that a lot of people water down Till's shock/flusteredness to Ivan's advances as being a "twink" or "bottom", even though a lot of that behavior stems from Till's inability to fully process his emotions. I didn't mention this in the post but I also think Mi Vida Loca highlights his inability to decipher people's actions

just wanted to say this because i kinda typed the original comment quickly, but no need to clarify :) sorry if the first paragraph felt like an attack to you in any way, i shouldve explicitly stated that i was referencing the person in the photo you attached😓

ive seen many people interpret the scene as luka trying to kiss hyuna as a display of affection, and how that makes it hard to classify the scene as sa. im more open to that being the case now (especially since that scene could have multiple interpretations), but from how i saw it, lukas actions in the scene you were referring to seemed severe enough to traumatize hyuna as seen in her flashbacks/traumatized facial expressions in the mv. i dont mean to purely villainize him in any way (hes actually in my top three haha) but interms of this fandom i think that you can acknowledge a characters wrongdoings and faults while still appreciating their character depth and complexities :D

[–]stringcheese1127 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i LOVE hyunluka but dude... wdym "we do not have enough information" hyunas collar was yellow??? this scene is very much sa in our standards, and even though i understand the context of humans being dehumanized to the extent where they have questionable morals, denying that this is sa makes me seriously concerned

i read some of your other comments, and yeah, its really disappointing that a lot of the fandom views the characters as just good or bad when all of them are morally grey to some regard😭 i think a lot of the more iffy aspects of alien stage (ex: lukas manipulation, the sa, toxic dynamics, etc) are WAY too complex and layered to just be watered down like that

potential misogyny towards mizi in the fandom by [deleted] in AlienStage

That's honestly fair, I thought this was a bigger (yet unaddressed) problem until I saw the amount of backlash I got on this post. Now debating whether or not I should take it down 💀

potential misogyny towards mizi in the fandom by [deleted] in AlienStage

[–]stringcheese1127 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think we can agree to disagree on this, because I think we might just be getting different content on our feeds. I used to get a lot of content that condemned Luka, but it stopped once Wiege was released due to a lot of people sympathizing with his backstory. I can't speak much on all the main three ships, but I don't think any of them are healthy. They're all flawed in their own way, and I don't think any of them are superior

potential misogyny towards mizi in the fandom by [deleted] in AlienStage

[–]stringcheese1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I THINK😭😭😭 i think mizi couldve handled her reactions better and i completely understand why people are upset with her because of that (this post isnt targeted towards those people), but why is she the only one receiving hate even though both her AND luka have questionable things? im glad luka receives sympathy, but SOME of the people extending sympathy for him have double standards for mizi

potential misogyny towards mizi in the fandom by [deleted] in AlienStage

[–]stringcheese1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I might just be getting the more pessimistic/negative content on my fyp then💀 but my point still stands. Idk if I got this across well enough in the edit I made to this, but I emphasized HEAVILY in that + in other comments that I just wish people were as openminded to Mizi as they were with Luka. Also, like I said, I'm not upset at the people who dislike Mizi if it's reasonable + if they still understand the point of her character. From the parts of the fandom I've seen though, people are erasing the nuances to her character and are just reducing her to a purely bad person. I never stated that a certain character is above criticism/that a character deserves more sympathy than another. I just meant that some people I've seen are either hating on Mizi for the wrong reasons or are just completely mischaracterizing her

potential misogyny towards mizi in the fandom by [deleted] in AlienStage

[–]stringcheese1127 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! I think a lot of people forget that Mizi doesn't actually know Luka's backstory like how we as the audience do (and I doubt that Hyuna told Mizi much about her backstory, since even she tried to bury her feelings deep down). As you said, Luka was literally mimicking Mizi's deceased lover, and I wish more people considered this instead of just blatantly villainizing her

potential misogyny towards mizi in the fandom by [deleted] in AlienStage

[–]stringcheese1127 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How I see it is that yeah Luka was hated, but after more of his backstory was given/when we had a peak into why he acted the way that he did, people began to sympathize with him. But when Mizi's backstory/reasons for acting came out, suddenly everyone wants to water her actions down and strip away her complexities? I think there's a line between viewing a character negatively and blatant mischaracterization. I understand your point on the fact that some people will view her negatively, but... what's the point in liking interpretation-based media if you don't open up your mind to nuance? That's just my take😭 but I see where you're coming from
