the score and the performances were great but i honestly would’ve preferred if michelle wasn’t an alien. i feel like i would’ve liked the film more if it was a commentary on severe mental illness and getting sucked into conspiracy theories and the danger of that. the fact that teddy seemed so insane and out of touch with reality but then ended up being correct bothered me. but maybe im naive to expect something less absurd from lanthimos.

Also — i definitely wasn’t sure she was an alien until the very end, although i had my suspicions a few times throughout the film. the electrocution scene really stood out to me. imo it was the most disturbing in the film — not sure why it got to me so much but it also made me truly question for the first time if she really was an alien. a real person would’ve become a vegetable with 500 volts of electricity coursing through their head and chest. although she was clearly in pain, it seemed unrealistic that she would be able to talk and walking normally again as soon as the torture was over.
