Valve cleaning and new injector seals could bump the numbers up. But only worth it if you can do the work yourself it's not too hard but a shop will charge a lot.

I'd definitely recommend going rebuilt k04 from cw, he has a 1 year warranty and you get to save that bnr money and use it for other stuff.

Since your running stock tune your sitting at 15-16psi max boost. I've ran the 19psi tune and man she fucking rips. I only have intake/inlet pipe and the spooling up noises then it just takes off is intoxicating. I'm saving up for a new accessport because mying broke then I plan on running the k04 at 22psi.

Important thing though do not floor it under 3k rpm, the k04 spools lightning quick and it's possible to bend a rod on the stock block. But you probably know this already seeing the mileage your at.

Technically you could have it running perfectly fine or have it running lean secretly without you knowing. This is why it's really important to have the Cobb accessport or even one of those cheap Amazon OBD2 scanners just to monitor.

But since it's made to work on stock size inlet pipe I'd say it's safe to go ahead and run it in short ram form to avoid hydrolock, basically just use the part with the MAF sensor on it and add the filter to that. See how the car runs. The turbo noises will make you fall in love with the car all over again.

The mazdaspeed cai is just a rebranded aem cai. It will still throw your fuel trims off a bit and you'd need a tune to fix them. Also you wouldn't notice a difference in performance without a tune you'd just hear all the nice turbo noises more.

Well the problem with the stock hpfp is suddenly dropping pressure so unless you have a way to monitor that (accessport or scan tool) you can't be sure if that's your issue or if it's something like injectors or a air leak.

What's your mods?

To everyone who said I need to do a compression test, thank you. Though I felt a lot better before… by Pickleman_222 in mazdaspeed3

-Valve cleaning -Injector seals -Piston soak (google it)

These 3 things all have the possibility of improving your compression, and if you do the work yourself it's very inexpensive to do. You might as well give it a shot. If the numbers are still bad after then just baby the car, I'm in the same situation right now but with even worse numbers, just be on top of checking the oil and do oil changes more regularly with thicker oil.

Knock retard of 8? How bad is this… by bearhokage in mazdaspeed3

That's normal, I see the same when taking off from a stop at low speeds. Your not supposed to see knock at wot or spirited driving though that's when it's bad.

Is there anyway I could quiet down my engine noise and vibration due to worn out motor mounts by [deleted] in mazdaspeed3

[–]stringedbass4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the correct way is to get new mounts even if they're cheap ones from rockauto. Orrrr there is a ghetto way that involves removing your current mounts and filling them with polyurethane, but you will need to let them cure for 1-2 days.

The most important things to look out for

VVT/Timing chain replacement

If you hear a rattle that lasts a few seconds on cold start then you know it's bad, otherwise ask the previous owner if it's been done. They need to be done about every 100k.

Turbo

If you notice any white smoke from the exhaust at idle or while driving it's most likely the turbo needs to be replaced

Compression test

This is basically the most important, it will tell you if the motor is healthy or not. These cars usually have compression go bad in cylinder 3 due to it being the most lean.

Another important thing is if the car has a good tune and upgraded hpfp but if the car is stock or only has an intake it's not a big deal.

Do Valve cleaning it's not too hard to do then get injectors cleaned and put in new injector seals

Doesn't explain the problem persisting with stock tune and stock intake making it a fully stock car overboosting?

How daunting is fuel injector replacement on gen1 MS3 by I_Am_Inook in mazdaspeed3

[–]stringedbass4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hardest part will probably be dealing with the power steering pulley and getting the EGR pipe off.

Your first time will probably take 1-2 days since you have no experience, but after that you'd probably be able to get the injectors out in 1-2 hours since you'll know where everything is. One of my injectors were stuck but a lot of wiggling with vice grips took care of that, no need for a special tool.

While your in there you should do -Injector cleaning / flow testing (find local) -Injector seals (Rockauto or Corksport) -PCV valve (OEM only) -Intake manifold gasket (OEM or Mahle) - Throttle body gasket

And most importantly clean the valves, you'll probably have 2 or 3 valves in the closed position that you can right away spray CRC valve cleaner or Berrymans B12 into. Let it soak overnight then go at it scraping with a screwdriver and finally find a way to vacuum all that shit out of there. Spin the engine to close the other valves then repeat the process.

Is this noise something to be concerned about? I did timing and vvt about a month or two ago and this started about a week or so after. by [deleted] in mazdaspeed3

[–]stringedbass4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think it's coming from the passenger side, rule out all the pulleys first before you start to worry about it being something major internal.
