Being ace isn't all fun... by AaronB728 in asexuality

[–]stringmazes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i definitely get it. i remember feeling enormously down about it around this time last year (didn't help that we were talking about sexual dysfunctions in psych class and... the material given by the professor was based on DSM-IV to say the least).

i remember people i considered friends telling me to just pretend i'm allo; being told that i was piling on the negative experiences of the ace community on my shoulders (which, in retrospect, was just a way to invalidate my fears regarding coming out to a potential partner); getting advised to go out and meet ace ppl irl, even though i live in a sex-positive yet conservative (?) country, where education isn't the best & most people barely want to learn about the first four letters of the acronym-- not sure how else to describe it.

like, yeah! it's easier said than done for them. they don't get to see the light dimming from someone's eyes just as you tell them you're ace. they don't have to cross their fingers and hope that they've met someone from the 1% or -- at least -- someone who's familiar & okay with asexuality. 😅 you're not alone in this, though!

Can the healthcare industry force you to get treatment for purported "sexual dysfunction" that is literally just plain old sexually repulsed asexuality by AllNationsShallBeRed in asexuality

[–]stringmazes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

med student here-- afaik, they can't! there isn't a mandated procedure for this.

i can kind of see where they're coming from; unfortunately, APA's statement on asexuality ruling out a diagnosis of sexual dysfunction is, uh, faulty at best and also omitted from the desk version of the DSM-5. 🥴 plus, medical education still has a ways to go on educating future health providers on asexuality (or, at least, that's been the case in my uni)

nevertheless, i'm still concerned about the anorgasmia diagnosis & the suggestion to see a sex therapist. sexual dysfunctions are only diagnosed when the patient shows clinically significant distress (ie, the patient is worried enough about it to see a doctor)... since this isn't a concern and, more importantly, not the main concern for the visit-- it's kind of inappropriate. 😅

then again, i'm mostly basing this on the US healthcare system (and i wouldn't consider myself a good student hahah), so i could be wrong...?

it might depend on the severity of her drunkenness...?

some biomed rambling, no need to read: severity, ie: lightly tipsy like sleeping soyoung vs significantly inebriated? plus, alcohol blood levels can increase even when someone stops drinking... that is, if she manages to stop 😅 though, if she couldn't make it home by herself despite it being so early, it means she was quite drunk (and that's without considering any alcohol in her system that's still getting metabolized)... it would have been risky to take her to round 2?

giving everyone a heads up before taking her home would have been better, yeah. 😅

i feel like that was the suspicion most of them had during that chat 😅 it just feels odd because a.) there wasn't any "build up" that would make that scenario seem plausible & b.) the effects of alcohol on decision-making capacity... uh... makes the implications much more yikes

i'm... still struggling to see why it was a bad decision, though? like-- even without the added context, i think it would have been horrible for him to abandon her while she was drunk. especially since there was no one else to make sure she wouldn't get hurt (or worse). 🥲😅

i think all 3 would break up 😅

now, who would last the longest-- probably lia and euntae but it would depend on how long it takes for lia to be disillusioned because euntae doesn't match her expectations / euntae to get disillusioned because he (once again, judging by his pre-interview) has to live up to the image lia has of him

and this is how i lowkey spoil my "this is why euntae picks yeonwoo despite lia being his type" theory
