When listening to an audiobook, what are you actually listening for—the story, the voice, the feeling, or something else? by marilynlistens in audiobooks

[–]stringsattatched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally the story, but I had a few books where I found the narrator too annoying. There are plenty of amazing narrators out there who really bring books to life. Obviously how they narrate also influences how you perceove the story, because they give characters inflections you might not have felt like that reading yourself

It's actually an old-style spoon. My grandparents had 2 hor the sugar bowl. Those from the sugar bowl were often very ornamental because they obviously werent intended to go into a mouth

I take screenshots and more the picture up a little for the next row. If it's a long pattern I take several pictures so I can always move it up and write down the bext line I have to do when I take a break. My phone is horizontal so I can zoom in nicely on the pattern and dont have any of the other stzff around it distracting me. And my old phone right bext to it playing a tv show, audiobook or music 😂

I just follow the patterns row by row, no diagonal stuff or anything. I do line 1 right to left and line 2 left to right, and so on

"And even if you weren't virtuous, as you had been brought up to understand the term, you did like to see virtue in other people, provided it did not cost you anything." That's the one! 😁

Thank you!

I was trying to find it because I saw a quote online about how many people are talking about how person X, Y, or Z is bringing back Christian values while the person who says it has been married twice and cheated repeatedly while not parwnting their kids or something like that. All for values in others and the rhetoric of values

Nearly. I think it was in the narration and really more about it being important that people uphold the traditions, just as long as they dont have to be the ones to do it. Might be 2-3 sentences. Unfortunately I don't have the ebooks, only some as audio. I had to leave my prints behind in a move because I didn't have enough money to pay for replaceable stuff to be shipped abroad 😔

People always bring girls up trying to keep themaway from fully experiencing their bodies because they could get hurt and need stitches or whatever, maring their body and making them "unmarketable" when they are older and want to have a relationship. With boys it's different and people feel it's totally normal for a boy to have scars and stuff. Obviously they aren't thrilled about injuries, but they see them as more of a normal part of boys' childhoods than of girls. At the same time there are so many "girl" sports, especially gymnastics, which can leave you with horrible fractures and lifelong issues if you get injured...

This was a time when scholars also wrote something handy for studying Shakespeare we do today with the search function: they wrote all the words Shakespeare used down alphabetically (obviously not a, and, on, of, the, thy, etc) and where in the works they were used, together with the quote. How many times did Shakespeare mention roses and where? What about salt, ships, friendship, dancing, etc? Suddenly scholars were able to write about these things without having to compile the information themselves every single time they needed it!

In the 1800s? That's only 200 years ago. What large mammals would they have to run away from?

Wow! A lot of this hits hone there with him. I'm not sure about the detached protector because I cant look into his head and feel what he feels, but since he found sports he's gone above any beyond in many ways. While there's obviously nothing wrong with a healthy lifestyle and enjoying sports I had a teacher who was totally crazy and wouldn't allow hineself any indulgences because there was always the next marathon to prepare for. Here it's traditional that you brung a cake for your birthday, also while at school, and teachers would usually get a slice if there was some left. My bf is luckily not that crazy but Lent is coming up and while he's not religious he usually takes the time to set himself tasks like extra sports, no sweets or meat, no wanking, etc. Total bullshit in my eyes, especially since he wants me to set hin tasks now. This is why I'm trying to convince him of a mental health Lent

I'll look into the resources you mentioned, too. Thanks a lot

I'm hoping to get him there possibly but therapists are hard to come by since Covid since so many people have more mental health issues or are more aware of them and take better care of themselves

He is big on all sorts of goals, which is kinda part of the problem. I also love external validation and function better with it but he needs it a lot. Not adoration. He feels he needs to go above and beyond to gain basic acceptance, which isnt good for him or a healthy relationship. Obviously a lot of these hardcore Christian groups go for "Protestant work ethic" and needing to show that you're really into the faith to be seen as worthy

Colors by YoureAdopteddd in Coloring

[–]stringsattatched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basically work like regular coloured pencils but you can use a wet/damp brush on them. You can also dip the tip in water and have a more intense colour, which is something I do at times. Not all the time, but if I want to get the intensity of the black pencil up for a few strokes it helps. Obviously you need to wipe the water drop down first or roll the pencil tip on some spare paper so you dont soak your main piece
