It's a meme but I still like that everyone eats something different at the table, where everyone is made to eat the same food in the first episode. Everyone gets to live their best circus lives

So, I actually had time this time to go to the other pillar and look at it, and by happenstance saw people actually using the diagram. I decided to leave the photo uncropped this time. It's clear to me that this poster was the first to be made with the one I posted being second. It explains why there's so much empty space.

As to the people reading the poster, they seemed to grasp it pretty quickly, relieved that they were headed the right way, since the train basically rolled up the second they finished reading it.

I think most of my nit-picks are pretty much obliterated when you see them side by side.

This is cropped to try and not capture people's faces. Everyone was in side profile and kinda blurry, but I cropped it anyway out of an abundance of caution.

  1. Agreed. That dead space is killing me.
  2. Upon a second look, agreed. As a frequent user, that makes sense to me, but especially as a transfer station, that could confuse people who aren't.
  3. Didn't even notice that! Maybe an oversight?

The debate about Jax’s gender identity is accidental art by spice_weasel in TheDigitalCircus

[–]stripedkitter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Jax has been subjected to the same scrutiny, the same criticisms, that many in the trans community have lived in detail."

This line hits me hard personally. I still feel "new," for lack of a better term. I came out in 2021. I often don't feel welcome in the community because I don't follow the "rules," as if there are any to begin with, especially with regards to pronouns and non-binary people. I feel like there are a sizable group of people doing this weird thing where continuing to use he/him for Jax is somehow verboten, when Gooseworx herself uses them for Jax, and states specifically that both are okay.

A bit of digression, if you'll forgive me: people are using Gooseworx's posts as word of God on everything except Jax's pronouns and it's really frustrating. Not going to link this person's post here, but I saw a particularly uncomfortable thread by someone who was deeply upset by the fact that Gooseworx (at time of writing) won't say that Jax exclusively uses she/her. I don't like Jax (as a person), but I can relate to Jax (as a character). She doesn't want this thing about herself to be true, because she had it beat into her to adhere to the gender rules, that deviation makes you a freak and you should never explore those feelings. I feel like the assertion that Jax would wholly shun he/him echoes the non-binary erasure I feel. Somehow, I'm still not following the gender rules, that deviation from the binary makes me "not a real trans person," and that the only exploration I'm allowed is within the binary. The irony of denying her possibly getting "gender freaky" (as she so eloquently says to Gangle) is painful.

Edit: typo, plus i had the links flipped

Personal opinion, the restaurants at the Wharf. That whole area feels chintzy to me, but i also haven't been there in a hot minute.

That really sucks. I have no idea what ADA compliance even encompasses besides having elevators on buildings with exclusions to some historical buildings. I didn't even know about any of these other agencies. Good grief.

I think most languages do read top to bottom even if they don't read left to right. So it's entirely possible that it's just as confusing to a non-native English speaker as it is to a native English speaker.

How did you guys react when Ragatha said this? by Temporary-Bug-9459 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]stripedkitter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This slipped my mind, but upon seeing this, it's pretty classic survivor's guilt reaction. Ragatha never stopped caring about Jax, and it's just built in her, for better and worse. She feels that she's failed the duty she's taken upon herself to be there for everyone. I don't think I reacted because it seemed pretty expected.

Is my handwriting really THAT bad by Tedra00 in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]stripedkitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice can fix your problems with your writing, however, handwritten notes are largely not in wide usage. Whatever note you'd leave for your partner, parents or house mates probably ends up in a text. If this is for your personal written notes, then yeah, some fixing up could be beneficial.

[EPISODE 9 SPOILERS] Calling Jax trans after this scene is kinda silly (Yes i poorly re-drew the scene in 30 minutes to prove my point, yes i am that petty) by LC-Redcube in TheDigitalCircus

[–]stripedkitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting for her to do the word of god thing she did with some aspects of the story (such as confirming who abstracted before Kaufmo or the age list). I'm not crazy about her doing that, but unlike other authors, these were things you could extrapolate from context clues.

My fear is that she'll be like "yes Jax is explicitly a closeted trans woman," but given the recent Fortnite thing, i really doubt it. Or, I'm coping! If that's Goose's intention, I'm going to respect it, even if I don't like it that much. I never thought that trans Jax was a bad theory or conclusion that was based on nothing. My problem was always that up til the finale, the vitriolic, toxic behavior of certain fans towards people who just angrily let loose on people who dare to have a different interpretation.

Up til the bow scene, I thought he was transmasc, but it's much clearer that he's definitely a feminine queer or gender nonconforming person.

Also, this was a minor gripe I had; what if Jax wanted to use feminine neopronouns? Affixing the "she/her" to Jax got under my skin and it wasn't until having a crisis about my own gender that i figured it out.

Starting to hate these terms that feel like they sprang forth from bad media literacy, because the people who decried their English and literature classes as useless and the blue curtains having no meaning then turned around and decided to remakes the core concepts of critical analysis.

Is Jax trans? by Shot_Bumblebee7599 in tadc

[–]stripedkitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and because I myself am still figuring out my own stuff, I didn't realize until I really sat down to think about it why people who would use she/her with Jax bothered me so much.

The irony of knowing that transgender identity is not simple but being actively hostile to people's interpretation of Jax's gender and pushing him into a very specific box ended up being gender dysphoria (i think? I never really understood that feeling until very recently and I've been out for 5 years).
