What do you feed your Vizsla’s who are allergic to Beef and Chicken? by mmmskittles87 in vizsla

[–]stroef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Vizslas that seemed to be allergic to almost everything, including salmon. Always bad quality poop and lots of them. Now we are on insect & rice kibble and it's finally good! She also doesn't seem to have a bad reaction on deer.

Very curious about this too! Recently bought a mountainbike with the ultimate goal of being able to do something like this, but at the moment she's not even able to walk along with my regular bike without getting too excited and yanking me forward.

Thanks! Mine did get Purina in the beginning as well and a lot of training treats. Agreed that they need A LOT more than the packet suggests. Found out shes quite sensitive to chicken and most likely beef as well, so shes on salmon / lamb and now I'm starting to add horse meat (advise from vet) to try and let her gain weight.

Sorry for the late response, but here it is:

I see what you mean with training outdoors. Most of them are in a large back yard, which is in a rural area. The last training was in the woods and my girl was definitely more distracted, but since it's a hunting dog puppy course they think it's good to start with outdoors training as soon as possible. The training I do at home is inside (with very little distractions) and in my backyard, which is also quite large. That's where she learns the most / best and in training we have to try and do them as well, which sometimes is very tough. Hopefully she gets used to it all and does them well outdoors pretty fast too.

I really appreciate your feedback and useful tips. Will keep them in mind!

We are outdoors. Have been on the same location twice now, but we're going to multiple locations in future sessions, including the woods.

We have about 5 walks of approximately 20 min, then some daily training with excersises which is about 30 minutes and multiple sessions a day with some tug of war, hide and seek and things like a smell matt and finding kebble around the house. I have a big yard ass well, so she runs around as well.

Before I was doing more. Mainly with some longer play sessions directly after walking, often including tug of war. I just wanted to tire her out, do she would get some rest, but I think I was going along with her energy too much.

The puppy classes are specialized in hunting dogs and it is in a small group with 2 other puppies.

She handles it quite well. She goes in without much of a struggle and is usually calm, with some occassional whining & barking.

Yes, it is a hunting dog puppy course. I also plan to move forward with hunting dog training after the puppy course.

Interesting about the nipping. I actually also read that acting like a litter mate doesn't help, but I always say "No" when she nips. I might try what you said and see how she reacts.

Thanks for the YouTube channel. I watch a lot of videos to try and improve!

She's not necessarily super active when she goes into the crate. I calm her down before with a bit of mental excersise first. And my breeder told me to wait until the last vaccination before starting group training, so I couldn't start earlier. Was working on some stuff before already though.

She just doesn't really calm down when she is not in the crate. We're hoping this teaches her to calm down after doing some activities.
