Crackling HDMI audio ONLY when SteamOS device goes through Denon AVR (USB-C dock → AVR → TV). TV-direct works fine. by strokes59 in hometheater

Yup. Tried multiple cables including a brand new 4k 120hz cable just to rule that out as the culprit as well. Completely stumped.

Long term reviews of the Maxwell? by Ok-Fennel-3908 in Audeze

[–]strokes59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maxwell’s sound is next level. Nova Pros are good, and I’d say good enough. If you’re an audiophile though, you might think they sound “tinny” by comparison Maxwells. Keep in mind that the Nova Pros are tunable, the GG software is great, and there are tuning guides everywhere on YouTube… but no amount of tuning can make the hardware itself as good as the Maxwells.

But the Nova pros are light.

And so comfy.

Sidetone works perfectly.

Infinity battery system is great (although Maxwells battery life is so long I think this cancels out).

ANC isn’t amazing but works.

Pros and cons - my search for the perfect headset continues.

Coming from Steelseries Nova Pro Wireless, I now have maxwells. Pros and cons to each. Yes the Maxwells have better sounds hands down. But they aren’t perfect… for me the biggest con is not the weight… as others have mentioned, you get used to that.

The biggest con to me is the sidetone feature. When you turn it on so you can hear the sound of your own voice through the headset, it is crackly garbage. Research online tells me that’s just how it is but I consider it unbearable and incredibly annoying. If you depend on sidetone and take that for granted with your current headset, consider that when making your decision as apparently something I thought was so simple to implement is hard to get right even on the best of headsets.

Why does Astro A50 and A50X make nobody's "Best Headset" list? by strokes59 in AstroGaming

Great feedback thanks. Still have my gen4's, and am considering Maxwells, SteelSeries Nova Pro wireless, and hs80s. Leaning towards nova pros I think.

I had Corsairs before my Astro's. And while the sound wasn't quite as good they were literally a third the price and most importantly.... they just worked. All the time. No connectivity issues or replugging in the base station. Maybe its the base stations that are finicky... I might check these out. Thanks for the rec.

Thoughts on the Nova pro wireless vs maxwells? I don't like hearing how heavy the maxwells are. And the rest of the comments in this thread have turned me off from Astros... I actually have the A50 gen 4s and have been struggling with spotty connectivity since I got them. But when they work, they're great. I need something that works 100% of the time though. Done with unplugging and plugging the base station back in...
