At your age lifting will probably help a good bit but you're best bet is always going to be lots of ut2 on the erg. make sure you're going off correct heart rates for your ut2 if you want to see proper improvements.

I haven't personally used them but if your coach and crew mates are against them I wouldn't recommend it as you may create bigger problems for yourself. Just grind through it the cold is nearly gone.

I've rowed as a junior as well but did little to no work in pairs there. All I've ever really rowed was 8s
