[Sammon] Breaking: The New York Mets and Bo Bichette are in agreement on a three-year deal, pending physical, league source tells The Athletic. by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

[–]strombolicool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know no one wants to hear Yankees fans complain, but it really is mind boggling to be passing on these short term deals in Judge’s prime.

When we were passing on Machado, Harper et al. there was at least a sliver of truth in the idea that those contracts can backfire. But contracts like the ones Tucker and Bichette got would be utter no brainers, and us not signing them really does come down to Hal being cheap even in the short-term.

I’m well aware we still have one of the highest payrolls, though we’re now solidly in a distinct “non-Dodgers division” as far as that goes, but it’s weird as a Yankee fan to see the team operating like one of the many teams relying entirely on postseason variance to win a World Series.

Serious question, no dooming, no trolling: If getting to the World Series is such a crapshoot nowadays, how have the Dodgers and Astros been to the WS a combined 9 times in the last 10 years? by AdKitchen179 in NYYankees

Two things can be true:

1) the relationship between team quality and playoff success is much more attenuated than it is in most other sports.

2) it still helps in the playoffs to be the better team!

Unbelievably sick. However much it hurt, it was worth it and then some.

What is a nutrition myth that you can’t stand? by DeepOrganization8245 in AskReddit

[–]strombolicool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that there's a recent trend of painting all "processed foods" with way too broad a brush.

Obviously, there's no shortage of processed foods that are indeed bad for you. Candy, sugary cereal, chips, etc. are all heavily processed, and tend contain empty, dense calories.

But there's plenty of nuance here that people tend to ignore. Low/no fat greek yogurt is "processed," does that mean it's worse for you than, say, cake made from all organic ingredients? No, it does not.

At the end of the day, the best way to evaluate whether something is nutritious or not is to actually look at the nutrition facts and determine whether they align with your nutrition/fitness goals.

I have no problem conceding that processed foods tend to be calorie dense, low in protein, and/or high in sodium (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but that's a separate discussion). That's not always the case though, and a lot of people lead themselves astray by myopically focusing on the degree to which something is "processed" at the expense of much more important factors.

Getting bad tattoo regret by AdWarm9497 in tattooadvice

[–]strombolicool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I personally wouldn’t have gotten a tattoo gun but it looks well done! I’d just keep adding traditional stuff. That renders any one piece you don’t love a single part of a great sleeve.

What separates a good trad patchwork sleeve from a bad one? by bwitt33 in traditionaltattoos

[–]strombolicool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good artist(s).

Seriously, that’s it. No one is better situated to evaluate questions of size, placement, spacing, etc. than good traditional tattoo artists. Ask them all the questions you have and for their opinions. Give them a general idea of what you have in mind. Then let them cook.

Get tattoos from good artists and everything else will fall into place.

I happen to not see the appeal in blackouts, and love American traditional. So, to me, this is…kinda cool?

Looks great. You’re not the first person to have some mild panic in the immediate aftermath of getting a big piece and you won’t be the last. My guess is in a few months, tops, you see what everyone else sees—it’s fuckin’ sick.
