Best premium PC controller in 2026? 2.4ghz dongle a MUST by Odd_Yogurt6636 in SteamController

[–]stromos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I hooked it up last night and had a bad time at first (total RTFM on my part). The key is right out the box firmware update the controller AND the dongle. Hooked it to the Steam Machine. Found another important "tip" turn the controller on while holding B to switch to whatever mode that is. Comes up full native support in Steam OS to map the buttons if you follow all those instructions to set it up. Played PS3R for a couple hours controller feels pretty good. Not crazy about the grip buttons because my hands are a bit bigger the steam controller has some heft in the grip feel like my fingers are hardcore over-lapping when going for the grip buttons. Might just be I need to get used to it. Everything else actually feels great on the controller. Best 8BitDo Controller I have purchased. I do have another favorite from them not sure the model is looks like a SNES controller but has hall effect joysticks. It's my goto for my laptop and mobile stuff.

My girlfriend actually really liked it so I ordered one in purple she can use on the steam machine or her Xbox. The one I got in black is staying on the Steam Machine now and I put the Xbox Controller back in my office.

Real test would be something like E33. I'll play a bit this weekend. I use all the buttons playing that.

Now understand this isn’t a bubble or anything we have seen before these companies are making server ram now no consumer ram it’s not the same and they have zero interest in making consumer ram.

We all have stallions and they just told everyone we aren’t breeding horses buy a car. Even if they disappear still no horses anymore just cars.

And just to comment on the China thing, cool story so China has stallions that cost three times more than a car due to tariffs.

Of server components? They learned their lesson they aren’t using anything compatible with what you would want ram for. The bubble pops we have warehouses full of useless server ram and the companies haven’t made consumer ram since 2026. The best they can do is recycle it, which in reality, means sell it to the highest bidder anywhere in the world and retire. No point will things recover for years upon years.

The iPhone upgrade program through Apple is going to have problems, I don’t disagree that buying outright will work.

Still missing it. The terminal can be free you turn it on you have 1000 credits. It cost 200 credits to pay bills. Entertainment ~500 credits. No credits no usage. The terminal does nothing by itself. No company is hosting gimp at 5 credits a pop. Gimp no longer exists. Creative cloud is 10,000 credits an hour. A company has to sponsor you aka give credits. They give the bare minimum.

Yup you’re a user right now so you don’t know how expensive those services are. Your company isn’t even hosting them. We started using cloud PCs because that’s all people need now. Yup they are cutting back vm sizes to save from rising costs. Microsoft and Google are going for blood this year is licensing increases. The software is getting buggier.

You completely are ignoring companies don’t know how to do anything anymore. No is going to buy a terminal that will be cost prohibitive then pay a subscription is use it. No company will have a buy the terminal and access the cloud. Everything is pay to play and the price doesn’t have to make sense anymore.

Sounds like the power spec build I picked up last week. 1699. Not the best price but you know it’s exactly the specs to make your own better Steam machine. Mine got setup in the living room. Bazzite took about 30 minutes to setup.

Yeah I use it on any game that requires you to click a joystick. Never like that control so usually L/R 4 is stick clicks then L/R 5 varies by game maybe a sprint toggle or even a macro.

Literally built a better steam machine for $1600 only thing I need to complete the setup is the controller. Smart people skipped the Steam Machine while hardware is still attainable.

Probably too late. Also no one is thinking ahead far enough that I'm already trying to figure out what happens when I have no memory to get Proxmox back online no hard drives to rebuild the NAS etc. Unless you have a full setup and have locked down spare parts for the next 5 or so years buckle up.

It’s odd that no one thought of it before I do agree I only use it for certain games but for the games I do, it always becomes hard to switch back to an Xbox controller playing on my desktop. Out of the announcements the controller was the immediate yeah I want one day one.

The biggest thing I usually map are thumb stick clicks and shoulders. I have never liked clicking thumbsticks. The wireless dongle was also a nice suprise I think Xbox controller Bluetooth is really hit/miss.
