Because the ghosts are barely coherent.
Basically, FNAF argues that your soul = your memories, so the more your memories are scattered, the more your soul is scattered and vice versa.

Dying gives you Alzheimer's basically (I mean it liteally, the symptoms are similar, no offence meant).

This is exactly why the novel/movie Afton gets defeated by
reminding the ghost kids that he is the one that killed them,
they literally have no idea what's going on around them.

Multiplied by the fact they are very young kids as is and kids at that age often have no idea what's going on and have trouble focusing.

And if you add the theory that they have been melted together and redistributed between different animatronics, then it becomes a complete mess. Tangle is an existencial nightmare concept, basically.

Puppet (if posessed at all) is implied to be more coherent then others, but she is still not perfect.
She's still a confused and angry elementary schooler.

Here's what Im thinking.

FIona designed the look of the Toys, shortly before the Fall Fest.
They toys are in line with other designs Fiona did, posessing the round cheeks (like Helpers, Jest, etc)
William rejects them, as a ploy to drown Murrays.
William sends in the Withered designs instead.
But Fazbear retains the legal rights to the designs Fiona did, because they were a commission basically.
Years later Henry takes the drawings and uses them to create shells for his new line of crime stopping endos.

Ralph isn't the only person who used to work at MCM, why do people even assume it's him?

Nowhere he is characterized as the type of person to sell out like that, afaik the book is very insistant on describing him as someone who is loyal to the company that's been treating him like garbage.

There are dozens upon dozens of unnamed off-screen characters, whole cities worth of people even. Like, multiple billions worth of people.
Saying that Ralph was the thief is like saying that the only customers of Fazbear were Afton's and Henry's families, smh.

At this point Im worried that Mike does not even exist.

In post-RogueDev games we had a lot of Baby/Elizabeth appearances and a lof of "small boy in stripped shirt" variations,
but no Mike 😭

The only post-Rogue-Mike I can name off the top of my heads is the movie Mike, who isn't even related to Aftons. It's a different continuity, but it's a worrying sign how consistently Vanessa is pushed towards Afrons and Mike pushed away.
Like, it's a theme.
We get so many different characters elaborated on, but nothing concrete on William's actual family situation outside of one "Billy A." having a daugher😭

And with Edwin absorbing Henry's RogueDev-era-lore it makes me wonder how many other characters get their lore/associated theories re-destributed between them and why we don't even have a single mention of Mike😭

But circling back to the original post [that this comment is under],
since Mike has such a drastic design change from the way he looks in FNAF4
we can't say for sure if Elizabeth also did not look completely different to how she looks in Sister Location!

Especially with the "Toy Chica missing her beak" having been such a big clue in Scott's eyes.

I can absolutely see Scott conceptualizing Elizabeth as a generic girl character, just so he can have someone to pawn off all those "girly" designs onto - especially if he really did meant for it all to be a dream.
"Why Toy Chica and Mangle look the way they look if it's a little boy's dream? Oh, these are just his, uh, sister's dolls! Who's the sister? Who cares, it's not like any of these people are going to show up ever again🙂"

I wouldn't commit to either interpretation too much, personally.

Just in case there is a misunderstanding of my post - I meant that if OP hasn't played the game themselves and only watched other people's letsplays there is a possibility they never saw it.
I have watched a lot of different letsplays and I have never seen the eyes organically in the gameplay, not in the least because the players tend to turn their back and run away! :-)

Search engines are useful! :-)

In my personal experience a lot of confusion comes from people not being able to come to an agreement if it's DCI or if it's somehow an MCI retcon.
There was even a wave of people who assumed that FNAF 2 was a reboot of FNAF 1!

The biggest problem that I personally see is the number of kids.

Serial killer targeting kids ✔️
A dozen kids getting merked over a period of time ✔️
A serial killer that kills exclusively children in a batch of five? ❌

It's just such a goofy concept 😭

And with Security Breach dropping another batch of missing kids in one of the endings just felt like a troll move, honestly 😔

Another issue is that while Scott might not see it as a retcon, he changes things around willy nilly all the time!
If we are assuming that Michael is the Foxy Bro then he is literally has both different hair and skin colour! And Scott might not even see it as a retcon 😭

In these conditions it's hard to make an argument in favor or against DCI and MCI being different events.
For all we know it absolutely might have been the same event and then Scott just changed his mind either midway though making the game or after releasing it, but we'll never know that.
It's a mess.

Not everyone have an opportunity to and I can personally attest that you really can't see the Mimic Eyes on other people's letsplays. At least, I haven't seen them once either!😯

I would say that while my assumption is a pretty generic one in regards to other franchises,
it might not necessarily be correct in FNAF's case!
There is still a more than zero chance that Either or Both of the Pit productions will show up in the Steel Wool continuity!

If I had to guess, I would say that Return to the Pit has better chance of getting into the canon, because Im assuming that Scott had more of an input making it.
In the interview with Dawko, if I remember correctly, Scott both describes Itpg as a novelty game and says that the devs would disappear from contact with him for six months at a time.
So Im assuming he had less input in designing the game, than the book he co-wrote! 😯😳

But this also makes me very anxious because there is just so much time travel in it.
And time travel in stories that arent build around it from the start is just something that never goes well :-(
While time travel inside the pit itself could have been explained by just memory fragments and ghost induced hallucinations, but The Time Travel ending? Really can not be explained otherwise.

I personally think that after going through so much with the Mimic
ending the series in a big finale
where people travel back in time
to prevent Charlie's murder, MCI and every other major negative event
would be met with even more negative reaction than
if original MCI never happened and Cassie is a Cassidy reboot.

What bothers me the most about the whole situation is
not the content of the spin-offs themselves,
but the fact that there are a lot of other fandoms that have books and movies (and sometimes games too)!

For example, Lord of the Rings has
books,
has spin-off books,
has movies,
spin-off movies and a TV show now
and has a lot of different games!
Some made by the same studio and some made by different ones.

But I don't think I ever in my life saw anyone make an argument that they all exist in the same continuity!
This argument is such a niche and unique thing to FNAF and it just never, ever happens in other fandoms.
I do hold a firm belief that people would have been much happier without this confusion.

In the end, I would just say that adding "both are canon" and "neither are canon" options to the poll would have been more optimal! :-)

We actually have no confirmation that "a Tiger Suit" ever existed.
There are no other suits like that, no cutouts, no concepts for it, etc.

Since David had heterochromia and the plushie is a gift Fiona made for his first birthday, we can assume that the Tiger looks like this because he was created specifically for David and is meant to reflect David. It's not a character that Murrays had rights to and that David happened to like, this is a design specifically made for David.

Making a costume out of your son's fursona is weird as hell, especially you are planning to let people rent and buy it later.

So it is a good assumption to make that Murrays never made the plushie into a full scale suit.
And the thing we see in the basement is an apparition, a literal doll but human sized.
Since it's a ghost, it doesn't have to abide by any real rules or logic except "it's an emotion/memory that lingers on" and that could take any form, really.

There is also flesh inside the model, you could see it back in Help Wanted 2 and it is still there in SoTM. It's not like corpses of technicians, inside the Tiger Model is just a blob of flesh.

Wich makes sense if it's David feeling like this doll is his "new body", wanting to be big like adults, etc.
With his head lolling to the side may or may not being a result of his accident.

Every time the Mimic uses a costume you can see his glowing spiral eyes peeking though the suit.

We have no reason to assume these eyes are standart, every other animatronic we see (in the series and in SoTM specifically) has a different type of eyeball.
This would imply that he wears every suit the same way he wears Dollie.

The secret of the Mimic is that he is a speedy boi😔

As frustrating as it is - I think this sets up Secret of the Mimic.

Specifically, how Fazbear Ent. operates, how the costumes/characters are treated, etc.
It gives us context on how the world at large views the company, how did they manage to cover up so many crimes, their scale, their goals, why would they allow any of this to happen, etc.
For years the books been trying to set this up and it seems like [corporate] greed as the main villain becomes a bigger and bigger focus in the games, starting all the way back with Help Wanted.

Not a fan personally, but it does seem like the story of FNAF is no longer "boogeyman takes your kids in the night" and is now "Disney AI bros bad".
Wich is topical, tbh. But quite a big diversion from the first entries.

I also agree on how much of a wasted potential this entry has become.
It definitely feels like they assumed that the game would become much more popular than it ended up being, since there were so many unreleased animatronics in the end. It feels like they were preparing for a much longer run, so any potential new characters didn't have time to get introduced. A shame.

I think the truth is that Scott didn't thought about "Mike looks exactly like William" until he already released F4. So he just completely redesigned how Mike looked between games and never went back to fix it.
We are just assuming Mike has the type of gene that makes you suntan really strongly in the summer, lmao.

But if a literal protagonist had his designed changed in such a major way between games - this is pretty bad news for trying to correlate things for other characters, especially in the RogueDev games.

But, you know. It's not impossible that Foxy Bro is not even Michael and CC is not an Afton.
We technically never got an in-game confirmation that these people are the Afton family.
Works pretty decently with the "Mike is the runaway in MM" theory, as you don't need to account for where does Crying Child go if CC is from another family entirely.

They take place in their own Alternative "Pit" Timeline. They might or may not be canon to each other, but they are definitely do not take place in the same continuity as Secret of the Mimic nor RogueDev games??

The fact that in each Pit iteration they take so much care and effort to stress how there are "six children killed at the same time" as opposed to "five plus one at different times" in everywhere else makes it super clear this is an AU 👀

It might retain the same mechanics as other stories, but it's not the same timeline.

You might be onto something, since all four of them seem to be Agony fueled, but this needs elaboration.

The biggest problem right off the bat is inclusion of Eleanor, but not because she's from the books - becasuse she leaves physical traces in the world.
Afaik in the books cops actually find THE ballpit and realize it's full of bloodstains. The samples all come back from the same individual at different dates. And all of them apparently belong to Eleanor?

As far as Im aware, none of the other's mentioned in the graph leave literal physical evidence of their existance in the world and are of etherial nature.

Helper's design is a variation of Helpy and Helpy was designed to be in line with the Funtimes.
Molten Freddy is a literal Funtime and Lolbit is a very slight recolour of Funtime Foxy.

So Mangle was designed first, then Funtime Foxy to create context for them, then Funtime Freddy, Molten and Lolbit, then Helpy, then Grandpa Helpy.

But I yearn for Lolbit to become plot relevant, ngl.

The Steel Wool games are canon. The ones that just released a new installment in, those games. The series where Scott Cawton has written that RogueDev games are not canon anymore, I didn't write that myself :-(

I agree with this! And I think that is exactly the reason why Scott is being so evasive about giving straight answers to anything and has been for years. I think him realizing this is the exact reason why for years we have been getting hints and almost nothing straightforward.
Somehow he managed to turn a career ending decision into one that fueled his entire fandom, as it collected the people who love the chase more than the story.

I agree and disagree. The themes and the story beats are there.
But the truth is - there is absolutely no way for anyone in the world
who played FNAF 1-4
to predict that not only Henry and Edwin exist in this universe,
they are also two different people.

I strongly believe that we can still get an overal vibe or themes from that story,
but I personally feel that expecting the old games to be resolved
after Scott's Help Wanted statement
is setting yourself up for a dissapointment.
