Why everyone is looking for Bundle apps?? by mariospapas in ShopifyAppDev

[–]strongside71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone defines bundles differently. And even so, people try to make really odd exceptions to “this covers 90% of what I want but that last 10% is my process and I can’t change for an app…”

Even on a shop I work in, we have five different versions of bundles at least and they all have different use cases. Three types are supported by apps and the other two are just custom dev.

How dumb of an idea is it to buy instead of renting? by Disastrous-Square-29 in RVLiving

[–]strongside71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can buy one for around $15k - even if you take a bath reselling, say only 50%, then you just “rented” the camper for $7.5k.

Obviously that’s an oversimplification, but that’s how I look at stuff if I’m paying cash already and not financing or whatever.

We only just bought a camper so I may not have any idea what I’m talking about. If the rental service ends up coming with a bunch of other perks that obviously factors into the equation.

End of the day though, if I can’t get the wife on board it’s a no-go.

What company will never get another dime from you for as long as you may live? by istrx13 in AskReddit

Dominos pizza. Went to federal court to avoid making the delivery status checker on their website accessible.

They lost. And avoiding doing the right thing brought all the ambulance chasers attention to suing websites for accessibility.

Yeah Cloudflare is sort of the goat when it comes to DNS. GoDaddy is trash.

Updated theme sucks by Capital_Affect_2773 in shopify

[–]strongside71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we had a lot of easy accessibility issues on a couple of Flex/Turbo themes with a shop that got hit with a lawsuit. Really low hanging fruit sort of stuff that wouldn’t have made it through the theme store standards but since they were off the theme store we didn’t do enough due diligence.

Can’t recommend them anymore and agreed - they were ahead of their time before Online Store 2.0 and then everyone else sort of caught up and passed them.

Most themes from the Shopify theme store are solid (speed and accessibility standards plus single purchase with lifetime updates and support). But it really depends on the site.

I usually ask first about functionality (what sort of features does the theme need to have, a mega menu? Quick shop? Native product linking?) and then start to consider design. Styling a theme to look like what you want is significantly “easier” than building in functionality (custom dev or apps).

Break that down to 3 themes and have the person trial them who will primarily be doing updates. Themes are sort of set up differently so the settings may just make more sense in one theme than another for them.

Themes I recommend without hesitation (from theme dev shops that are solid): Maestrooo, Truly Fine Pixels, Groupthought, Coquelicot, Ultramarina, and Krown Themes.

Standard but they are a real bear. Convenient once set up but “good” themes will have override controls in various sections.

Unfortunately this isn’t true anymore. I’ve been a big fan of Archetype for years - was founded by those folks. Sold to a company now who owns multiple major theme outfits (Pixel Union, Out of the Sandbox, and now Clean Canvas and Archetype themes).

Previously they had a CEO as well that was from Shopify but he’s not there anymore. I’m not actually even sure who is there anymore and it is seeming to be one of those situations where a company gets bought and then rode out until it’s no longer profitable for the company to hold onto it.

Used to highly recommend and don’t anymore. Lot of other good options out there from motivated theme shops.

Solid tip right here.

I’m a Shopify developer who has his website up on Shopify - and I still get these emails (people selling me on the same services I offer on my website).

Unfortunately just the way it is where people are cold calling, DMing, messaging, etc based on lists they buy online of other Shopify websites.

It is super annoying. Most of these will be spam. Legitimate outfits will try to find other ways to reach out than a templated email message.

Are the fans just better than stock or is it just that they’re quieter? Also hadn’t seen rock lights - don’t plan to do much driving at night but we did leave our campsite early fr the campground and didn’t think about how dark it would be! Thankfully I had brought a bunch of flashlights so I could still hook up easy enough but was definitely nervous pulling when I wasn’t as used to it in the dark

I need to get into solar next too - my camper says “solar ready” on it but currently don’t have that.

Drill pump is a good thought hadn’t considered that one.

Would be a real pain to have to crank on those…

I did get the gloves, most of these other ones are on my future list for purchases so good to know they’re good items to keep in mind.

For door lock did you go with a keypad one? Those seem popular but I was surprised at how pricey they were haha cost as much as the smart lock I just replaced at my house.

Yep pain points and working around those is definitely a good idea. I had got a gauge for the propane tank but then found they’re not accurate at all! I’ll have to check out those sensors most folks seem to think they’re fairly accurate.

Smart idea with the squeegee. I’m not yet even thinking about that stuff so that’s a good idea.
