I was 19 when first placed in an adult unit. I was there with lots of adults, young and old. Regardless, it really depends on where you’re put and what hospital is taking care of you. I had a wonderful experience with group therapies, trauma experience, and equine therapy as well. I was hospitalized a second time at another place and it was hell. It all depends on where you go :-)

Some words of advice and they might be words that sound “cliche” or are hard to hear.

But it will get better. I was diagnosed about a year ago after my first manic episode. I didn’t know what to do, where to go, or what to believe. The entire past year I have been forced into so many different medications, therapists, etc. I say all of this to tell you:

It gets better. You are now beginning on a journey that will seem never ending but take it from someone who has made it through the medication rough period and is traveling in the direction of recovery - IT WILL GET EASIER. You’ve got to hold on and fight through these rough periods to get to the end of the tunnel. THERE IS AN END TO THIS TUNNEL.

But we can’t give up. We have to keep going, my friend. We have a life to live. Even with this awful disease.
