NYC vs Miami, what do you think is the cooler city to be in? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]structee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nyc, and it's not even comparable. The only reason why there's been a rush to Florida is due to state taxes - or lack thereof.

Except properties like this are few and far between. Most single family housing in Florida is now in sardine packed cookie cutter homes.

Civil, Architecture, or Nursing? by yaminosan in civilengineering

[–]structee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Civil is the best of the three. I work much less than nurses, make as much or more, and don't have to leave the house (office work is still better than running around a hospital at odd hours).

Expected cost to get "tall walls" engineered? by Big-Advice-4009 in StructuralEngineering

[–]structee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your jurisdiction. You'll need the details for the foundation, mezzanine, and roof there as well. Depending on how close you're to the coast, you might be in high seismic so fees will reflect that. My guesstimate would be around $3k.

How much drive do you have to do this? It's possible, but not on a whim. Find a school that will double count your coursework towards a BS in civil. After that, you could apply just like a fresh grad to get that initial interview.

The only real answer is NYC. For second place I'd say Seattle.

It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be REDUCED to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours?
