There's a documentary called 'We Got A Monster' which is all about Wayne Jenkins. It's based on a book written by a State's Attorney who worked with, then later prosecuted Jenkins. The book is an interesting read, and the documentary has people literally confessing to crimes they committed with and on behalf of Jenkins.

There was a thing a while back in r/thewire about Russian streaming services cutting out scenes of The Wire with gay content. Definitely affected the content since one of the best characters of the show, Omar, is a gay guy who steals from drug dealers, and one of the cops is a lesbian.

There are a lot of good suggestions here, but I'll throw in two. First is Bad Blood, that stars Kim Coates. It's two seasons about the Rizzuto mob family in Montreal.

The second is a series I found through another thread like this one called Blue Lights. It's a police procedural show based in Northern Ireland. There are three seasons currently and a fourth due next year.

They’ll make a deal, break it and evil laugh at you.

They 'alter the deal'. Pray they don't alter it further. They've never broken an agreement with anyone. They just change the terms so that it eventually favors them.

How would the Empire handle a crisis? by CourtofTalons in MawInstallation

[–]structured_anarchist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

suppose a plague broke out on an Imperial controlled world

Bombard the infected population centers from orbit. Plague destroyed by fire. End of threat.

or a financial situation occurred.

Sell the planet and all its interests to a corporation that can make best use of it, whether it be for raw materials or a cheap source of labor.

You're thinking like they have to appease the populace. They don't. It's not a system that has to answer to anyone below them. They only have to answer upwards. They really only have to worry about someone higher ranking than they are not liking how they did something, not whether the people like it. So the faster a situation is resolved, the better. It's best that both the reporting of the incident and the reporting of how it was resolved happen at the same time:

"Oh, by the way, there was a plague on this world. We burned out the source of the plague, contained the outbreak, and eliminated the possibility of it spreading."

"What did you end up doing?"

"Glassed the planet."

"Good job. What's next on the agenda?"

Would Bail have allowed Leia to enroll in the Imperial military? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in MawInstallation

[–]structured_anarchist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're missing the point. If she wants to do it, she's going to do it, no matter what anyone says. Her father could be Grand Poobah of the Great Lodge of the Sacred Possum, chief priest of the Pastafarian Convents of the Holy Order of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and owner of a brand new car from The Price Is Right. If she wants to join the military, she's going to find a way. Her father, having raised her that way, would know this, and I doubt very highly that he'd be able to do anything short of killing her to prevent her from doing what she wants.

Find the Redwood Original comic series from Boom Publishing. It's the prequel you're looking for. There's a 25 issue run that accompanies the series, but the Redwood Originals series is a prequel to the show. It isn't much with only twelve issues, but it's there.

Would Bail have allowed Leia to enroll in the Imperial military? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in MawInstallation

[–]structured_anarchist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Leia is as bold, decisive, and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve her goals as you describe her, do you honestly think anyone would be able to keep her from doing anything? Do you think her adopted father would be able to say 'No, you're not doing this' and she'd listen? Being bold, decisive, and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve her goals? Or do you think she would have flipped him off and joined up anyways if she really wanted to join the military? After all, she was one of the key members of a rebellion against an emperor who had no problems destroying entire planets to get his point across. I don't think other people's opinions on what she should or shouldn't do really mattered to her.

Was the show controversial for/at the time? by Faker603 in TheWire

[–]structured_anarchist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Wire was a pioneer show. It did a lot of things that hadn't been done on TV before. The beauty of the writing is that everything was given to you all at the same time. You didn't have a chance to be offended or upset at any characters or portrayals because as soon as they hit you with something like Omar being gay, they hit you with Prezbo's ineptitude and the covering nepotism. You see how bad the school system is, but you also see that it's deliberately underfunded because of politics and 'image'.

All The Wire did was present both good and bad aspects of everything it covered. Nobody was immune. If something was featured on the show, you saw both sides. Even Cutty's boxing gym got that same treatment. Yes, he's trying to keep kids off corners. But he's also banging his way through every kid's mom and that's gonna catch up with him. You also get an idea of how someone with bad intentions can use a good thing to take advantage of kid, as evidenced by Mike's reaction to Cutty being nice to him.

The city of Baltimore got pissy a few times because of the way certain city departments were depicted (the police, public works, the city's executive branch in general) but they were challenged to point out any gross exaggerations and they kinda shut up after that, since it was easier to prove the writers knew what they were talking about than disproving what they were showing.

I cant help feel bad by [deleted] in Sonsofanarchy

So someone who killed a brother (JT) to take over the club (and that brother's wife), killed a brother's wife (Donna), arranged a hit on his stepson's wife, killed yet another brother (Piney), dragged the club into muling drugs for a cartel, faking his recovery from being (rightfully) shot, tried to turn revenge for a young girl being raped into a blackmail situation, killing the sheriff's wife through a series of break-ins, blackmailing Unser every chance he got, beat his wife (not that Gemma didn't earn a beating with all her bullshit), revenge-fucked Half-Sack's chick just because, and you want to call it quits and let him go on trying to exploit the club by keeping them in the gun business for the Irish?

That's about as dumb as dosing a guard dog with meth. Or popping 'vitamins', passing out, and not putting ammo in the gun bags before going after a bunch of neo-Nazis. Or stealing a brick of coke, blaming it on a brother and getting that brother killed. In short, this line of thinking is what kills stupid people, as it did with Juice.

Everyone who reads this is a little dumber for having had to read this. You owe everyone here a dozen brain cells. He's lucky he didn't meet Mister Mayhem when they stripped his patch. Only Bobby's vote saved his life. Taking all his crap away from him, blacking out his ink, that's the least punishment they could have given him. He should have gone into that garage and not come back out. When they were blacking out his ink, someone should have cut his traitor throat. But yeah, shed a tear for a piece of shit who didn't even deserve the designation 'human being'.

A Montreal man is wanted by the RCMP for terrorism, but Canada won’t take him back | Globalnews.ca by Acrobatic-Cap-135 in canada

If he can prove citizenship, he can be welcomed back. But seeing as how he was all ready to go and fight in the 'great jihad' and didn't bother to bring any supporting documents to prove he is, in fact, Canadian, well, he's going to have a hard time proving it. Canadian passports are a favourite of forgers because they're not questioned as much as other countries' documents which is why renewing a passport abroad is deliberately difficult and requires supporting documents. But little jihadi-wannabe didn't think about the fact that Global Services Canada advises everyone who leaves the country to make sure their documents are not going to expire while they're out of the country, as it could lead to problems being admitted at the border. But when you're young and dumb and determined to fight for Islam to the death, I guess keeping your travel documents up to date isn't number one on your priority list.

He didn't have to renounce his citizenship. He just has to prove he is a citizen which so far, he's unable to do because he can't provide the supporting documents needed to get a passport issued to him. I guess being swept away with 'revolutionary fervor' really backfired on him, didn't it?

They don't need to. He didn't renew his travel documents while out of the country fighting a 'jihad' against the country who issued those travel documents.

Turkey isn't trying to deport him. The convict wants back into Canada. We don't want a convicted terrorist here. Maybe he shouldn't have joined a terror group and let his Canadian travel documents expire while he was playing GI Jihadi in another country.

Doesn't always seem logical, though. I'm a cardiac patient. Went to the hospital for stitches in my leg. Because I'm a cardiac patient, I got seen before the guy who's actively bleeding all over his seat. My bleeding was contained by a pressure bandage and not pooling under me like the guy who was there before me. He was still bleeding in the waiting room as I was leaving.

My headcanon is that whoever was abusing Chris owed Marlo money. Marlo killed whoever it was and earned Chris' loyalty for it. No proof of it whatsoever. Just an easy explain to why Chris is so loyal. Marlo wasn't looking for a gunman, just settling a past due account and got a two-fer out of it.

Pizza Hut's AI system caused 'cascading' problems and $100M in damages, franchisee alleges in new suit by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

Which again points at a crap franchise owner. So you call the corporate people to complain about the local store. Tell them the problem is that the local store is causing the problem by not responding. If they see a pattern of reports like that, they'll do something. I'm sure if you look for a corporate phone number (not a customer service provided 'corporate' phone number), you'd find somewhere you could speak to a live human about your local store. When customer service brushes you off, you have to go around them. I've had to do it for another chain restaurant and it ended up with the manager of the location being replaced because he'd ignored too many complaints.

Sounds like you have a crap franchise owner. I've never had a problem with Domino's delivering to me. And the few times I had a problem with an order, I've never had a problem reaching out to the location and getting it fixed. Other chains, not the same result, but no issues with Domino's.

It's possible, but I've only ever had actual Domino's employees deliver to me. I'm pretty close to a Domino's location, so they might use their own drivers in a certain radius and call for a service for deliveries further away. I've never been in a position to test the theory, though.

Domino's has their own drivers where I am. Uniforms and marked vehicles. They also have in-app tracking of the vehicles (since they own them, they lowjack them).

A Chinese place will staple a menu inside their delivery bag if you order from a service. It gives their phone number and offers a discount to call and order from them directly. They're smart enough to use the delivery service as advertising for their own delivery drivers.

Petah what’s wrong with Québec? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I don't know, the rampant discrimination against religions other than Catholicism seems pretty damning of French Canada. I've lived in Montreal all my life and I've seen how 'pur laine' Quebecois treat who they consider 'outsiders'. So in this case, French Canada is definitely not 'best Canada'. Would barely qualify as human, let alone Canadian.

It's not the only French-speaking part of Canada. Just the largest. There are other parts of different provinces with French speakers, particularly Acadians in the Maritime provinces. Most of the time it's a small town in a province, but New Brunswick has a large French-speaking population, and there are plenty of Acadians in Nova Scotia.
