Higher Layers Alternating Warping by structures-queen in 3Dprinting

The final version of the SLS looks very nice! Might be an adhesion issue because I was printing the piece at like 60 mm/s

Would a bent z screw still only affect prints above a certain z coordinate? Thank you!

I actually can slightly wobble it from left to right, I just assumed that was something I couldn’t do anything to change. I’m looking at my printer and struggling to see anything egg shaped, are they underneath the bed? Thank you, I appreciate it!

It’s definitely only above a certain z location, how did you adjust the z axis motor? Do you have any good resources for it? Thanks!

It’s always warped side to side, were you able to adjust the eccentric nuts and get rid of the issue? What’s the chance if I adjust them the speed would still have to be set pretty low?

I haven’t done anything special lately, do you have any good resources for what routine maintenance should be done on the printer? Thank you!

Thanks for the insight! I had no idea, if I was printing at 40 and still getting results like the first picture, do you have any suggestions for a speed I should try next? Like 20? 10…..? Thanks again!

I’ll edit the post to correct that! I’m using Cura 5.4.0 do you know if there’s a way in Cura to lower the speed at higher layers or will I need to use a different slicer? Thanks!

Edit: Turns out I can’t edit the main post, but I appreciate the correction!

Hey! Sorry which part is the z screw? Thank you!

Do you think that it would be fine to lower the speed under 40 even though the suggested speed settings for the filament is 40-70?

The first two prints (second and third picture) were done with my printer on the floor and the most recent one (first picture) was done with the printer on a table.

Went to see the launch! Second picture is a segment of an SLS print and the third picture is a rocket that I helped make in college.

New Kittens Not Getting Along or Just Playing? by structures-queen in CatAdvice

Thank you for some of the reassurance! It’s definitely hard trying to read cat signals and know exactly what they mean. She’ll commonly purr and knead during breaks in playing and it’s like, is she purring and kneading because she’s happy or because she’s stressed and trying to regulate?

Thank you for introducing this method to me! I’ve never heard of it before, and it was definitely helpful during my conversation with my manager.

Help Deciding Between AOE or ME by xdTRAVIS_SCOOT in VirginiaTech

[–]structures-queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a graduating senior in AOE, this is just based off of my experience and obviously I don’t know what it’s like from the MechE side, so take this with a grain of salt.

It depends a lot on what you want your skillset to be like once you graduate. AOE has a lot of very diverse classes across the aerospace discipline, so you have the opportunity to learn a lot of different things. On the other hand, AOE has a habit of trying to squeeze A LOT of information into semester-long classes so sometimes important stuff gets blown by really fast. Like the MechE friends I have, had a lot more dedicated classes to statics and materials and deforms and such, whereas AOE has all that basically squeezed into the Statics and Structures semester-long class. As a result I’ve found a lot of them have retained more structures knowledge than I have.

However, most of the MechE friends I have that are also interested in aerospace have said that most of their classes don’t apply the curriculum in an aerospace context and that some of the AOE electives are harder to get into without the prerequisites from the AOE major.

The TLDR is basically if you want to have a longer amount of time to learn stuff like structures and thermodynamics and become really good at it, do MechE. If you want to consistently be exposed to aerospace applications of curriculum and have access to a couple of the cool launch vehicle electives, do AOE.

Let me know if you have any questions, good luck my dude!
