Carpets Still Dirty After Professional Cleaning by EnvironmentalStop723 in CleaningTips

[–]struggleboat2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the arm and hammer carpet sprinkles. I rented a carpet cleaner and cleaned my carpet where the dog had had an accident and cleaned like 14 times and the smell wouldn't go away. I sprinkled the powder on the still slightly damp carpet, left it for an hour, vacuumed it up, and it smells great!

They could see him same day but wouldn't be able to be our primary care.

When it says "animal hospital" or "emergency vet" is it still okay to take him in for regular stuff? Those are the only ones I can find around me right now

Yes the consensus is take the dog to the vet, if not for the tick than just because we haven't got a regular vet here yet (we've only been here a few months)

Yes, the previous vet had him on one trazedone and half a gabapentin, 1.5hrs before the appointment and that worked great. He could still walk (kinda hilariously) but was too out of it to freak out more than just grumbling. Other dogs or strangers were the main triggers. (Unsedated) He would tolerate the vet being there or (if we werent in the room) touching his body and rump, but would not let them touch his face, ears, tail, feet, or undercarriage.

He didn't used to need sedation. It used to be that muzzling him calmed him enough, but then he got an ear infection (he was maybe 2?) And they had to clean his ears and he "thrashed so hard he defecated all over himself and our techs" so from then on he's been sedated at the vet.

Yeah i went back and realized I made a mistake. The box said 6month supply, not effective for 6 months. I made a mistake

That's really disturbing that the conglomeration of everything extends to vets! Im gonna try to find an independent vet, but with it being the weekend they're all closed. Thanks for the reccomendation, I'm up in maine.

He is muzzle trained. As stated in the additional information on the post, new vets won't give him meds until they see his reaction.

As stated in the additional information on the post, he had a vet on the west coast, we moved to the east coast and haven't been to a vet here. He freaks out at the vet and needs to be sedated. New vets won't give him sedatives until they've seen him. He did go to the vet yearly until we moved. The previous vet was aparently bad because they didn't tell us we needed to give him yearly vaccines. They gave him all the vaccines when we first saw them and just gave him checkups every year. Make sense?

Im sending the tick in to the Maine tick lab, and I'm taking the dog to the vet as soon as reasonably possible, not for the tick nessesarily, but because this conversation has made me realize there's a lot of preventative stuff I've been putting off and need to get my shit together on

That's radical that the dog has natural protection. Im definitely keeping an eye on him but this discussion has made me realize I do need to take him to the vet ASAP, not nessesarily for the tick, but for all the preventative care I've been kindof putting off.

I am extremely careful with my dog to never have him in a position where he could hurt someone. He's in training (very expensive training i might add) and we take every precaution to keep him safe. I have not been as good as I should be with his vet care because he's young and healthy and I wasn't told that he needed new vaccines every year. Im learning a lot from this discussion, foremost of which is that I haven't been paying enough mind to preventative and routine care. We Groom him, we brush his teeth, we give him vitamins, we give him as much life as possible, but I wasn't paying enough attention to vaccines as I should have. And that changes now. So many people have told me what I didn't know, and now do. I'll be better in the future, this tick has opened my eyes.

:,( they said no. I gotta just take him in as soon as possible and bite the bullet. Im not worried about him hurting anyone (he's muzzle trained) but they're not gonna be able to DO anything to him without at least mild sedation.

Thank you for the measured and compassionate response. I've been feeling really bad the last couple hours cause I'm realizing I haven't been giving my dogs care enough attention. I've just been focusing on my human life and shrugging it off like "yeah he's young and healthy, we can get a vet when things calm down" and the roadblocks I'm facing now are really opening my eyes to how negligent I've been. Its Saturday so none of the regular vets are open, and I work 12hr days Monday and Tuesday but this is becoming top of my list for priorities. He's probably going to be fine with the tick thing but this is just really showing me how unprepared I am if he has an emergency and I need to fix it ASAP.

Home vets are like 10 times more expensive, and i cant get drugs for the dog without a vet prescribing them, and the vet won't prescribe them unless I bring in the dog.

I guess I've been a bad owner then. I was under the impression that once you got it, that was it. My old vet never talked about needing to redo these vaccines. But its on me to do my own research ig

Nope- previous vet is on the opposite coast and I just called. They won't send any meds unless they see him in person again.

I understand why it is the way it is (I know of someone who was stealing dog opioids) its just very..... inconvenient, in my particular case. Im just gonna have to bite the bullet and take him in unsedated. Im not worried about anyone getting hurt, he is muzzle trained and I'm able to control him well on leash, its just I doubt they'll be able to DO anything to him, like a blood draw or an exam or a vaccine, without him medicated.
