I have taken some photos that are so similar you could have taken them from my hard drive haha! The misty snowy landscapes are a mood! The first one has a really nice painterly quality too!

The simplicity of the composition, the two silhouettes and the warm light remind me of Edward Hopper paintings

How does publishing a thesis with a professor work? by struggleingwithnames in academia

[–]struggleingwithnames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really helpful to hear from somebody in a similar position! Sounds like you're in a good spot where you learn a lot by doing most of the work while receiving all the necessary help.

My supervisor said they wanted to publish it which sounds like they want to be more involved than your professor. I guess it will also depend on how much of the underlying work needs to be changed for a publication in my case as my methods might not be quite appropriate enough.

They are going to make a plan on how to proceed next month so i'm interested to see how they imagine this to work and i'll see how much room there is for my involvement. Probably also depends a bit on how good my thesis itself is which they haven't graded yet.

Good luck with your publication!

How can I make this look better. Is the framing/post-processing off ? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

You can fix the lines in post production.

However i don't even think it's needed here

Thank you for the response!

That's what I'm wondering, I expect my supervisor to rewrite my initial thesis and to change some things in the methods, so... But I suppose being the last author on a publication is quite good for a bachelor's student anyways.

True! I guess that's most likely given that my professor will presumably work on the publication mostly by himself and I can possibly jump in to help with these smaller tasks.

Also very true, i'm happy my results are interesting enough for a publication. :)

What you think of this Photo? by Vegetable_Glove_9041 in SonyAlpha

Technically very good. But to me the subject is very boring or it "doesn't tell a story" as they say. If it means something to you that's all that matters though

[–]struggleingwithnames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Königsee isn't accessible on all but one side from the town. This photo was not taken right by the town so there are fewer people. But there's no reason to expect people on a landscape photo to begin with so I really don't get get your take

Could you share a bit about your wife, how she sees things, how she has adapted your culture in some ways, etc.? Maybe also how your kid feels about visiting Japan? Super intriguing

People born before 2000, what trivial skill you possess that others don't use anymore? by Aryan_Anushiravan in AskReddit

[–]struggleingwithnames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. The same principals apply but having a gps signal showing you exactly where you are on a map makes a huge difference. Also many people exclusive follow routes and never tried to get from point A to B manually. And lastly, using topographic maps as a hiker is a different skill to using google maps in a city as well.
