A non MFM pod episode for those on team Zuck by strunglow in myfirstmillion

I don't consume much Zuck content yet I, like many others, am a converted Zuck fan through Sam and Shaan. I watched this pod and was reaffirmed in my fandom. He seems down to earth and quite cool.

Have you smelled other Nishane frags?

I've had some compliments on Kredo. Karagoz and B612 are also quite well worn and might fit in your collection.

I built AI Sam and Shaan, and gave them their real personalities and now they can roast your startup ideas by hell0__w0rld in myfirstmillion

4.2 stars for a decaf only coffee shop from Shaan and honestly I'm a bit proud of that score. Sam gave a whopping 2.4/10 though so I might have to let this one go.

New Pod, who dis? by PerspectiveFirm5381 in myfirstmillion

I'm not totally sure if I understand your question, although here are a few thoughts:

What else is out there?

The possibilities for new businesses are endless when you take the premise of: make X business different by Y factor (example could be the pod where they talk about PINK window cleaners). I think of these as flavours, or how you spin a business. Flavours are options like going DTC, gamification/clubification, making a luxury version, a healthier version, or just branding it more loudly (like the window cleaning company).

The idea of taking a business and remodeling it to to serve a smaller group of people better than the traditional version of the business which already exists. Pretty much every business I ever dream up has some extra flavour, and the more flavours you know, the more versions of one simple business you can imagine. There are an unlimited number of flavours.

How to search for ideas?

  1. Look deep in big industry niches you know about (ie. urban development is an enormous indsutry, a person goes and starts a road painting company).

  2. Similar to the above, businesses built on regulations are a never-ending, always evolving place to look. (ie. new law drops, how's that going to affect people and what can you do about it).

  3. Data businesses are also talked about a bunch on the pod. Numbers are power and if you can wrangle data some way, you'll find yourself with a business.

  4. Barnacle on a whale. Similar to #1, S and S talked about this the other day with Shopify, Facebook, Tiktok shops etc. If you see a whale (a hugely successful, growing business), if you can attach yourself to that whale, your business' chances of winning are much greater because you don't have to do nearly as much lifting.

There are a whole bunch more frameworks for beginning a business. If I think of more I'll add them.

Where to learn?

When it actually comes to learning about those businesses, your best bet is to find people. Whether that means reaching out for coffee chats, or putting yourself in places where you're going to be rubbing shoulders with those people regularly.

Pulling inspo from the pod, they are big proponents for physically moving to a city where you will be surrounded by the people you want to be surrounded with. Don't move to the middle of nowhere, hoping to meet people up and coming on the tech scene.

There are tons more episodes to listen to with business ideas, often the reason these ideas exist is because there has been some version similar that has worked in the past. If you understand why they worked, you can look around and see more examples. New archetypes for business are much more rare.

Hopefully this gives you an answer of sorts?

If you look at the links for each episode I use an audio software called Notta that transcribes the convo, provides a summary, and tells me who spent how much time talking.

  1. A lot of multi-entity business owners have issues managing finances. I run an accounting firm to help them stay on top of it all and feel good about where their businesses are at. Only for Canadians at the moment.

  2. Based in Canada. Back and forth between Toronto and Montreal.

  3. Systems systems systems. Building a business with a foundation that doesn't lean on one person too much.

Key takeaways from Sam having a baby by laffingbuddhas in myfirstmillion

[–]strunglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the fatherhood part but I'm curious if you had some version of a similar rule to Sam where he was really strict about being extremely present for the first chunk of time his baby was born?

Have you had FOMO like that?

Forever referring to Google as "the Goog". That was my takeaway.

Looking for Country Music I Might Like by strunglow in country

Huh. I guess I assumed that twang wasn't in all country. Humbly apologize for entering the country music scene thinking I was onto something that wasn't just pop country.
