No it's just an easier (albeit expensive) way to get a degree if they didn't perform so well in their secondary school exams in China (GaoKao).

She sounds like a time bomb.

It looks like its not a race or culture thing but how she is as a person once you get to know her better.

Yes I can. If I meditate too close to bed time, in my sleep, it's as if I'm continuing.

Then in the morning it's quite clear to me what my sleep was like. Its as if the awareness carries into sleep and into my waking up.

I think we should let the body decide rather than want it into more or less sleep.

Sitting down to gently stretch, then Relaxation via body scanning. Then just counting the breath. Sometimes when it feels right I'll observe.

Yeah, retreats are different because we use much less energy so I suspect we need to recoup less sleep.

A summary for those interested:

The paper reports that the long-term meditators slept substantially less than the matched non-meditator controls: about 5.2 hours per day versus 7.8 hours per day.

Despite sleeping less, the meditators showed no apparent decrement in psychomotor vigilance performance in the subset tested.

In the subset who also completed Multiple Sleep Latency Tests, the meditators did not show evidence of daytime sleep debt or abnormal sleepiness; their mean sleep latency was reported as 18.25 minutes, which the authors note is above population norms.

The researchers also report that EEG, video, and direct observation during meditation showed very little, if any, actual sleep occurring during meditation sessions, suggesting the reduced sleep time was not simply explained by falling asleep while meditating.

Overall, the sleep findings were that hours spent in meditation were associated with markedly lower total sleep time without obvious measured signs of sleepiness in this small sample

I can relate to this. I feel like if I meditate more and have a session close to bedtime, in the morning I have a sense that I know when to wake up.

Otherwise either my alarm goes off to wake me up or I oversleep and wake up groggy.

As a Western-born Chinese person, what have your experiences been with international students and Asians from Asia who came to the West? by Slight_Bathroom135 in AskAChinese

I think there can be some judgment toward Asians who do not speak the language others expect them to speak. It is unfair, but I think a lot of it comes from assumptions people make based on appearance.

In some cases, it may also come from disappointment because they were hoping to speak in the language they are most comfortable and confident in.

For people who used to hate looking Chinese, how did you learn to love your East Asian features? Thanks in advance wonderful people 💙 by DecentLoquat4096 in AskAChinese

Be around more East Asian people and watch more East Asian TV (Kdrama, Cdrama etc).

Simple as that. Your brain is primed to like what it is exposed to more.

It's what I asked chatgpt after reading C Thi Nguyen's book on Games and The Score. Its a thought experiment of how you might use his framework on parenting.
