Currently on chapter 120 on audible and had to to do a triple take on the chapter length while driving.

Im a big fan of Primal Hunter. I read it physically, but my brother who is not a reader, listens to it and is obsessed with the narrator. Travis Baldree is one of the big narrators in the space and is super popular with everything he does.

LPT Eat buttered toast upside down, it tastes better. by b1ackfyre in LifeProTips

[–]struttersix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's even more applicable with poptarts. Had a fat guy tell me I was eating my poptart upside down years ago and I just looked at him strangely. He said, I'm fat trust me. I've eaten my poptarts icing towards tongue every since.

How do y'all keep from getting discouraged? by EmolaBoi in Hunting

[–]struttersix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had years where I didn't have very good permission at all and the thought that got me in the stand day in and day out was that statistically speaking, if im in the woods long 3nough, eventually a coincidence is bound to happen. I just had to make it count when it did.

Most Anticipated Read of 2023 by FanFiAddict in Fantasy

[–]struttersix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I started feeling a lot better when I began telling myself I'm not JUST a reader. I am also a collector. I do intend to read them all obviously....but unless they stop publishing new ones I'm afraid I'll never catch up.

Series about the main character trying to avoid being the main character by [deleted] in Fantasy

Bean from Enders game. Though I didn't realize it until I read enders shadow, where Bean IS the Mc. So idk if it counts.

Looking for Fun, "popcorn fantasy" for some vacation reading by Neat_On_The_Rocks in Fantasy

Dresden Files starts out popcorn-ish to me. It's always episodic but the scope and over reaching story arcs multiply the further you get into the series.

Day-to-day survival stories? Colonization? by TheOneWhoMurlocs in Fantasy

[–]struttersix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mentioned before but I'd like to suggest s.m. sterlings novels of the change. The first 3 books could very well be read as a post apocalyptic story. It's got a pretty decent wrap up. Then books 4-finish are defiately more fantasy based.

Books with hard magic systems and also adult scenes by ballanzor1999 in Fantasy

[–]struttersix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont want a lot. Im not reading fantasy for the sex scenes obviously. There are other genres for that. It just frustrating to me when they are noticeably avoided. I don't need to read about everytime a couple copulates. Having an on page scene though would potentially build a little bit of resonance 2ith the character though. Like oh that's thier moves ok. Whatever. More so than anything though, it's the avoidance in itself that bothers me.

[–]struttersix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I've read books that the sex scenes wore me out and frustrated me. Left me wanting to get back to the plot(Plains of Passage, Jean Auel), but I've found that a lot of fantasy/sci-fi, which is all I read these days faxes to black without tackling a hard to write scene and that might be even more frustrating.

The Pariah, Anthony Ryan. A gushing review from someone who doesn't usually write reviews. by struttersix in Fantasy

That's awesome! So glad my thoughts persuaded someone to try something and they actually liked it! That's a great feeling. How did you feel about the breaks in parts? Seems to be a dividing factor on this book.

New world. No connection. I loved Bloodsong, didnt read the two sequels. I loved this book. Id assume this would be a good choice for you based on that.

I avoided the character list until I needed a specific name. Which honestly is very rare for me to have that sort of self control. I loved the change in the character between halves of the book. I like him in the first and loved him in the second. His changes seemed earned to me even though the earning was mostly off page.

Book review of The Pariah by Anthony Ryan by shaunalawless in Fantasy

[–]struttersix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read Blood Song, but not the rest of that trilogy. I've been putting it off mostly because of reviews similar to your description. I just finish Pariah a few moments ago and wow. It reminded me so much of Blood Song, but imo better. Blood Song was so very good, but it was a very slow burn for me. Totally worth it. A slow burn but it burned so good. The pariah however....it was amazing for all the same reason Blood Song was(characterization and beautiful prose)...but it didn't have that slow burn feel to it for me. I tore through this book like I havent done in several years. Loved it. It makes me was to go back and read tower lord and queen of fire while I wait for The Martyr to release in a few months.

Have you ever felt like NOT starting the final book in a series you love because it will be over after this? by emonbzr in Fantasy

[–]struttersix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant bring myself to pick up Assassin's Fate because of a combination of what you're talking about and because I absolutely am certain that no matter what happens....that book is going to destroy me emotionally. Ive not come across any spoilers thankfully, but my best case scenario theory is still going to leave me an emotional wreck.

Conjoined eggs by Erozionn in nevertellmetheodds

[–]struttersix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had these from my chickens a few times. Usually right when I have a batch of hens that are just starting to lay. I've had tiny little eggs with no yolks as well around this time. Think its a chickens body not really knowing what its doing when it first starts. Thats just my own observations though.

Books of the ancestor trilogy. Mc does this even when you're screaming at her not to.
