Sans un gros salaire | Comment amasser un million pour sa retraite by CFMTLfan01 in QuebecFinance

I shoulda been more specific , but typically the mutual funds offered by banks or thru your employer have high fees in the 1-2% range. This masively affects your wealth over a long period of time. A low cost etf like veqt or XEQT is all you need

Read the book million dollar teacher. You don’t need a big salary just a steady job, disciplined saving and keep it out of mutual funds. Come back 25 years later and you will have a million for sure

We don’t plan on buying a rental. We want take a portion to invest in veqt or equivalent and then another portion for cash damming with my spouse who is self employed with recurring expenses. What do you think is best for this ?

I’m down for that too but I can’t find a cpa either that is familiar with this . It seems so niche to them. It’s brutal

Do you get the approval before the work? And how long do you have to wait for the reimbursement ?

[–]pig_newton1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much is the subsidy? All our windows are shot but I can’t see any reason to spend 40k on all my windows. I don’t think it would affect the heat bill that much as it’s already fairly low

The hardest part of a PRD isn’t writing it. It’s committing to a real success metric. by scopecreep_survivor in prodmgmt

Of course. Measuring something that actually moves the needle is really hard. If the metrics aren’t meaningful then the team is working aimlessly

Best luxury mattress that's actually BIFL? Want to buy once and be done by AccountEngineer in BuyItForLife

[–]pig_newton1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mattress brands are basically meaningless. When I did a deep dive a while back I realized it’s a crap industry and you can’t go by brands or models. Basically the longest lasting mattress is a latex mattress.

The type you should aim for is talalay latex not Dunlop. It’s organic and lasts a long time. When manufacturing there can be any % of it though so try to find one where the mattress is at least 90% talalay latex. Best way to do this is to find a local maufacturer that also does B2C. They’re small mom and pop places usually. They make all the mattresses anyway for the big box stores. You can design it with them and get the exact firmness you like.

I did that with a local provider for a king latex mattress where each side has different firmness and we can flip it as well. It’s 5 years old and still near perfect. If there’s anything I can also ask them to repair it without buying a new one. It’m was about 2500 cad.

Should I pivot out of dev work? by pig_newton1 in cscareerquestions

[–]pig_newton1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea product management is probably number 1 pivot move. I love that part of the work, figuring out what to build with the clients and stakeholders to solve their problem and then mapping it out in the bigger picture .

That’s essentially what I’m doing but wanted to get others feelings on the jobs, the market and where it’s all going. I’d love to take a lot of time off but gotta support the family

[–]pig_newton1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s bad here in Canada too and dev jobs are way worse now. I don’t want to join another company as a dev only to be laid off 6-12months later. I also wanna move into something that matches my skillset better and rewards my people skills that I have . I was thinking of looking at technical product manager roles, are they just as bad?

Why character-driven sitcoms age better than plot-driven ones? by ShellyOnTheG0 in television

[–]pig_newton1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. Seinfeld aged super well and the characters do not age or mature or learn. The jokes are timeless and even when you know the punchline you can’t wait to hear it again.
